Torsion Axle failed
 

Over the weekend I started to leave the ramp and my tire was rubbing. It looks like the torsion axle has failed. So what is the normal repair for this and the cost. It is an 08 model BoatMate trailer. I have left messages with the manufacturer to call me this morning, just wondering what to expect

This happened to me. It will take a new main beam to fix it. It's possible they had a bad run of axles, I would get the serial number off of the axle so it can be checked.

I had one fail as well, different trailer manufacturer though. You might still be covered under warranty. They sent me both axles that were a new/different design. I replaced the rear axle (no brake lines) in about 2 1/2 hours, I needed to replace it myself even though parts and labor was covered by the manufacturer because I was afraid it would damage the tires and wheel well if I towed it any distance. If its your brake line axle it will take longer because you will need to bleed brake lines.
It sounds just like my situation, as if the splines on the axle jumped inside the rubber housing. You can remove the torsion arm and reposition it to give you the proper suspension travel if you need to tow it to dealer, but you will need to replace the whole axle because it will slip again. I think I asked how much the axles were if I had to pay out of pocket and I think I remember him saying between $350 and $400 each. Good Luck.

My 08' boatmate did the same thing last fall. Trailer warranty was up but my dealer filed a claim and boatmate took care of the issue. The axles are made by a third party so if you are having problems getting any attention through Boat Mate or Skiers Choice, look into the axle manufacturer. They should make good on it. Worst case scenario is you buy a new axle, they are fairly inexpensive.

Boatmate called and looks like right now they may be replacing it, will give an update tomorrow.

FYI, I tried removing the torsion arm and repositioning it in order to trailer a few miles. It just slipped again and rested against the fender. In my situation (single axle trailer), I was stuck until I got the new axle beam.
