Just finished the canisters tonight. I will put the speakers in them when the boat get's here. Four 6 1/2" JL Audio coaxials and two 8" JL Audio subs. The polished swoosh matches the side of the boat.

phaeton, just curious why you chose the jl audio speakers over the more popular mbquart components.

helixthecat 05-08-2003 10:27 PM

Those are impressive!!

phaeton 05-09-2003 4:49 AM

Andrew The shop doing the work also sells MB Quart. They wanted the boat to be all JL Audio. Not sure why so many people go with MB in there cans. Since most the MB in cans is a lower line you can go with a better speaker for less money in another brand. I planned on going with the Kicker RS6 components again because those things rocked in the Phat-Boy but like I said they want it all JL and are giving me a killer deal.

www.Wake-Me.com

I ended up with Polk speakers in my cannisters and could not be happier. Two 6.5", may build another set for the tower. This was my first attempt, so I only wanted to build two at first.

those look outstanding

So what was the bottom line?

monstertower 05-09-2003 9:37 PM

What are the can's made of? They are way thick and the back end looks perfect - nice work. We love working with the guys at Mako and it's great to know they are supporting the DIY'rs as well.

Post more pics as you get it all done.

Bill

The cans are made out of 1/8" aluminum. A little on the heavy side but easier and faster to weld than .090 aluminum.

www.Wake-Me.com
This was a pretty big project..2 pairs of Image Dynamics..Finally finished with the tower speakers, feel free to send me an email if you want details.. this was a major investment and project.. Its very very loud and clear @ approx 128DB!!!! Firing from both the rear and the front of the tower, stick you ear plugs in,

(Message edited by tabiggs on May 12, 2003)
