So I been looking to get a better camera p&s kind or better

I want to be able to catch action when I click the shutter without lag, but I do not want to break the bank. Also would like the get sequence shots so the FPS is something I am looking at also.

Looking threw all the post here and other forums, come to the thoughts that I need to get a DSLR. Great grandma has a rebel XD 8mp and I have been playing with that. Works great but I still want a little more FPS. Did test it and it does get 3 FPS over a 3sec burst. Never took it out on the boat to see what the action shots look like.

So my biggest question is will the Rebel XDi or XD be fine with 3fps.

I was planning on spending 300-400 for a new camera but nothing has fit the FPS bill and the lag. Anyone have any other choices that are not above the 700 range and can shot 4-5 FPS at full res. I cannot see spending 3x what I wanted to spend although I would like to. Just do not have that kind of bank

thanks

Lucky

I think you mean XTi. or Canon 350d and 400d.

In short, you won't find a faster frame per second camera for your price range.

just buy a used 20d, and get 5 fps. They're about 500-600 used on fredmiranda.com. Just remember that you're going to have to buy a lens as well, and a good wakeboarding lens, is approx another 600$.

sorry i did mean XTi or XT

Eric only problem with the 20D is that i would end up spending 1200 with camera and lens.. I might as well by the 30D brand new if i went that way.

Great Grandma has the 18-55 lens and it seems to do the job. i know there are better lenses... but right now that would be better then my 3x zoom p&s 5 mp i have now

Get the XTi or XT and then get a canon 100-300 off eBay. The 100-300 is considered to be a better lens than the 70-200 and can be had for around $150.

i been doing some more research and i have found a few 20D's but refurbed or used, for 800 with no lens

found out that Nikon D40x is 3fps, but extra lens are $$$ since the focus is in the lens body not the camera body. but the camera is cheaper

I think i have thought/talked myself into the XT, the reasons are

1) cheapest startup cost
2) its 8mp
3) EOS body allows future camera body upgrade while still allowing me to use the extra lens i buy for the XT
4) 3fps all the time as long as the setting is 1/250 or higher for the shutter speed

any other input out there?

I didn't even know Canon made a 100-300!

The XTI is a very nice body but if you gots to have 5 fps the 20D or a great deal on a used 1D is your only choice in that price range. You could start out with a 28-135 which is a decent range for a wakeboard lens on a crop body.

I had same needs. Got Rebel XT (8mp) last Dec with 17-55 lens to start for under $650. Love IT!

Then this summer I bit the bullet for the Canon 70-200 f4L lens at $550. Wow, what a difference with good glass, zoom is perfect for sports.

You can always add lenses later. The XT or XTi package is a good start. It still beats the tar out of P&S and gets you burst shooting.

Leo,

I've seen lightly used 20d's for 500-600$ on fredmiranda.com.

If you at all have the means, look into this. the lens (18-55 kit) I've seen as low as 50$, or even free sometimes!

check out the buy and sell over there!

technarider 09-22-2007 3:38 PM

What is a good 2nd zoom lens besides the 18-55 that comes with the camera?

phantom5815 09-22-2007 8:24 PM

70-200mm f2.8

helix_rider 09-22-2007 8:30 PM

I agree that the 70-200 f2.8 is a great lens, but I don't believe the average joe can rationalize spending the extra $$$ over getting the f4.0. The 70-200 4.0L is a great lens, providing the non-pro photographer with everything that they need to take great shots. Just my opinion, but I have the 4.0 and have never regretted buying it.

Sorry, but I wasn't referring to the professional grade lens.

Lens review site
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-Zoom-Lens-Reviews.aspx
