I'm located in Chandler. Where is a good place to get marine parts close to here?

azpowerhouse 04-29-2008 8:15 AM

Probably your local dealer. I sometimes use skidim as well.

04-29-2008 8:20 AM

I bought the boat used from a private seller. New to boating. I don't know any shops around here.

martinique 04-29-2008 8:53 AM

Century Marine is in Mesa and is a centurion dealer which is the boat listed in your profile

http://www.centurymarine.com/

04-29-2008 10:01 AM

thanks AG. I'll give them a call.

watsoc 04-29-2008 11:48 AM

Century Marine is a great dealer and they will take good care of you.

04-29-2008 12:39 PM

AG and Chris-thanks for the referral. I just got off the phone with Century Marine. I'll be heading over there to pick up some plugs and stuff. Thanks.

266crownlinebr 04-29-2008 5:36 PM

I like bass pro. You would be surprised how much stuff they have. Also, I think Century is good if you have a volvo, but Marine Max is the place to go if you have a Mercruiser. I will tell you where not to go...Darner Marine. Horrible service.

tigerules 04-29-2008 6:12 PM

Century Marine rules! The people there are second to none and always take great care of me and my buddies. I won't buy another boat, ever, from anyone other than Century Marine (unless it's a houseboat). I don't care if you have a Volvo, PCM, Indmar, Mercruiser, or any other inboard Scott can fix it and anything that is built around it.

bsebllhglyknit 04-29-2008 8:48 PM

I would recommend Surfside Marine. There new place is huge and the service guys are awesome. Talk to Chad for service, or Wade for parts. imo Surfside takes better care of there customers. Everything down to a complimentary wash, inside and out. We didnt get that when we took our boat to century. There located on dobson between broadway and main

266crownlinebr 04-29-2008 9:37 PM

NO, NO, NO, not surfside...your boat will never be the same. I have a Crownline. I know what I am talking about.

bsebllhglyknit 04-30-2008 6:31 AM

Why not surfside? Everything we have ever done there the service has been awesome. The boat runs better then it ever has

w00taz 04-30-2008 8:47 AM

I bought my boat @ surfside and they were great. I had one issue which got worked out. I also had them do my first maint there. I live on the north end of town and buy parts and do my own maint. They didn't seem to do anything wrong @ surfside I don't see why anyone would not recommend them but then again how bad do you have to be to f**k up an oil change..

azwakekid 04-30-2008 5:35 PM

cole what bad experince did you have at darner? i used to work there. there only one of the few stand up shops in town.

(Message edited by azwakekid on April 30, 2008)

Paradise treats my buddy w/ a bu like a champ too. They're next to surfside. Another place I hear you can get the oil filters and stuff is napa auto? I don't know the details maybe search the forum a bit for more info.

bsebllhglyknit 05-02-2008 7:01 PM

Surfside moved to 150 S. Dobson Rd.
Dobson between broadway and main. There new place is sick

jeff359 05-03-2008 11:15 AM

can someone clearify why owning a crownline validates what a person is talking about??

bsebllhglyknit 05-03-2008 8:05 PM

cause if you own a crownline surfside screws you over. Only century really takes care of you if you own a crownline.

Thanks Ryan.

Rodney, Darner had my boat last year for over 4 months. Went in to have them do preventative maintenance on my bravo 3. Nothing wrong with it before I took it in, just wanted to get an inspection. They said it would be a couple of weeks at most. I would call him almost every week and ask if it were done (needed to have some interior work done - they took so long I couldn't get it done before summer). He would tell me that the boat would be done the next day...I would call the next morning telling him I was on my way to get it and he would say he didn't get to it and it would be done the next week. That happend more than 4 times. How do you go from it being done the next day (multiple times) to taking 4 more weeks. I get it back and the first time out my impeller smoked - had to be towed back to the dock. My guess is they ran it without a hose hooked up. They replaced my gimble bearing, cv boot and u-joints, tilt sensors and aligned my engine. Should have lasted a few years without problems. Just got it back from Marine Max because my gimble bearing got chewed up. When they got into my drive, they found the original u-joints still in there and I know this because they were completely rusted (couldn't happen in 10 months of fresh water). Since it had been 10 months, and I didn't trust them, I figured I wasn't going to get anything from them but excuses.

Surfside, I should have said I have not had work done there and here is why. Every time I go in there to get parts from them, about 7 times, they have given me attitude and are no help. I did not buy my boat from them, so I shouldn't say that is bad either. I am the type of person that if one part of the business is not up to par, the whole business is not up to par. I have tried to give them second chance after second chance to get it together. I needed a quote for some new emblems, 2 months later after going up there and calling every two weeks, I gave up on them. That was one of my first experinces with them. The last one was just last month in their new location. I got spark plugs, oil filter, fuel/water seperator, distributor cap and rotor. I gave them the actual part numbers for the oil filter, spark plugs and fuel/water seperator. I gave them the serial numbers for my engine with the size and displacement so they could look up the cap and rotor part numbers. I start to work on the boat the next week and the fuel/water seperator and the oil filter were off by one number - hindsight, yes I should have checked before I left their counter. Start to pull off the cap and rotor, they are completely different than what I needed - hindsight, yes I should have looked at my cap and rotor before going down there but thought since they are a crownline dealer and I gave them the correct information to look up what I needed, that I would be ok. I have a couple more that I could post, but I think you get the idea. I like crownlines, I am friendly when I go in there, but I would not have them do anything more than get me parts because of my personal experince going there. Good luck, sounds like they are hit and miss.

bsebllhglyknit 05-06-2008 5:12 PM

From what I have heard, Surfside let go there service manager and have a new guy. Everything is running alot smoother and service has improved. I sucks about your experiance but they said right now there dealing with alot of pissed off people from the last service guy and trying to make things right. I think that is who you might of dealt with. You should come back in and talk to Jeff. Im pretty sure things are better.

ridealready 05-06-2008 10:13 PM

I have done business for several years with them and seen 3 or so different service managers come and go. Good people are hard to find and keep in that business. I can honestly say their new guys are on point and the new shop can only make them more efficient and able to provide better service.

bill_airjunky 05-06-2008 10:30 PM

Most engine parts for inboards & I/Os are available at any auto parts shop for a lot less than a boat dealer sells them. Spark plugs, plug wires, distributor caps, oil filters, fuel filters, etc. Their all the same as any car or truck engine.
The exception to that is things like the starter & alternator that are special marine versions for use in an enclosed engine compartment. And even those can be bought or rebuilt locally.

266crownlinebr 05-07-2008 2:55 AM

I probably won't try them again, but maybe they are trying to get better. Bill, your right, and that is what I usually do. Just decided I needed help with the distributor cap and rotor. Didn't want to take them off. Much easier one plug wire at a time. With gas prices as high as they are, it was also cheaper driving one place instead of two.

tigerules 05-07-2008 8:17 AM

Just take it to Century Marine. They recently moved into a huge shop with a huge yard (the old BMW Dealership on Main). Scott and Tammy will do a great job no matter what.

azwakekid 05-07-2008 7:16 PM

im sorry to hear that cole. i guess i was not there when you had your boat serviced at darners. you boat in your picture looks pretty new. how come the re rubber on the back end? usually if you have to have it done its cause of neglect or the boat is over 10 years old. and i know that there service is not fast. but i know that there work is top notch. also how did you get marine max to service yur boat? from what i know is that they dont service any other boats then sea rays. and in the busy months april threw october they wont touch anything older then 2 years old.

266crownlinebr 05-10-2008 3:07 PM

Re Rubber on the backend? I can't remember how to get to the pictures on this site. If you are talking about the white rubber on the swim platform, it is because I just had that added last year. I keep forgetting to go up to swimplatforms.com and get the black. My boat has been taken care of. It is 12 years old though. Marine Max will service Mercruiser equipment as they are a certified dealer. They were really fast at Marine Max. I had it back in a week.
