Dock bumper options?
 

Wondering what those of you fortunate enough to have a place on the water use? I stay at the family cabin on a lake for a couple weeks over the summer and bring my boat. We built a new dock the year before last and never got to doing any protection on the dock. IIRC the dimentions are 16' wide across the front, 12' long along the sides, and a 12' walkway flush with one side (this long side is what I use to tie up).

Last summer I was going to use an old fire hose I have stashed up there, but thought better of it as I figured it would be an eyesore for the ladies. They later thanked me for not doing that. haha So I improvised for last summer but now that I have the Supra instead of my old I/O I want to be sure the dock has something decent on it in addition to bumpers on the boat. Would prefer a type that mounts only to the side of the dock, as the top deck is removable (easier breakdown to pull out over winter). Any input on what's out there? Cheaper is better but don't want something that will fall apart in a couple years or won't protect the boat.

I used industrial felt. It is roughly 1/2 inch thick 10 inches wide and comes in various lengths. I used stainless screws to attach it to the top and side of the dock. This allowed the felt to bulge out away from the dock and provide a nice cushion when a boat bumps into it.

so you have a 24' section you can tie to, right? Why don't you just hang a couple G5 fenders from the side of the dock and use a standard 3 line tie up with a bow, stern and spring line?

I guess I shoud ask, how high does the dock sit off the water?

The thought did occur to me to just use fenders bolted to the dock. Might be cheapest and easiest solution but maybe not the best? Dock normally sits close to the water, a couple inches max. It's adjustable. Here's a picture from last summer. Most nights the boat stays on the mooring and dock is just used throughout the day.

take a board, carpet it like a trailer runner and attach it to the side of the dock vertically so its a couple of inches below and about a foot above the top of the dock. 2 or 3 of these and you are game.
