I am new to photography (or at least DSLR) and I was wondering how much a UV filter or a polarized filter and a Shade or hood would help my photos since I usually end up shooting in harsh mid-day sun... and any suggestions for what brand or type I should get would be appreciated... FYI I am shooting a Canon 40D with the 28-135 kit lens. So far the pictures are vastly better than a point and shoot, but the colors don't seem to pop like some of the others that I have seen here...
