Ok, I started this over a year ago but I have now sold my orignal box so I have to finish this one. I have a lot of respect for the guys that do this sort of stuff, one off custom boxes are absolutely a lot of work, i don't think i would undertake this type of thing again.
Here is the orginal thread: http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65921/247604.html

I have sanded all the bondo back and painted it with high build. I have mounted it up on the tower and I absolutely love the shape. Stoked.

I have since sanded back the hi build and it is now ready for paint. I will blow some white on it when I get back from the beach in a few days.

That looks great and should sound great. What're you putting in for speakers? Nice work.

99_slaunch 12-25-2006 7:29 PM

Looks sweet.

norcalmalibu 12-26-2006 1:44 AM

Looks sweet! Did you get your tower powder coated?

ponte_06_x2 12-26-2006 9:33 PM

man that looks good. it fits the tower perfect.way to do it yourself.

cyclonecj 12-27-2006 3:02 PM

If those are 5.25" speaker holes on the bottom, I have 4x5.25 Polk Momo coaxes w/grilles for cheap. New in box. I'll hook ya up.

Thanks guys. I will use the trusty pioneers for the speakers, the down firing are 6&1/2's. The tower was powdercoated blue from the factory. I have painted the box but the photos are at work, I will upload them in a few days.

99_slaunch 12-30-2006 5:29 PM

What kind of 6x9's are going in?

ralph 01-06-2007 6:15 PM

Hi Aaron, I am using the Pionner TS-A69815, I had the equivelent speakers in my last box and they were great.

Here is some updated photos with some white on. Its not perfect in some places but good enough that most will not notice I think. After the paint hardens off I will wax it and install the hardware.

Darren-You did a great job! I had the Pioneer 5 ways and I was happy with them while hanging out on the boat but my riders could only hear sound and not much music. I upgraded this past summer to the wetsounds threesome and the riders hear the music very nicely. I am sure with your setup you will get a very good result.

(Message edited by sangerlover on January 06, 2007)

Yeah, i know what you mean, we use the speakers mostly for camping and hanging out at the lake so they will be all good.
The box has dried and the wiring is under way.

ralph 01-08-2007 1:17 PM

Ok, half way done. I put some foam rubber strip on the back mounting surface of the speakers so they make a good seal on the less than perfect speaker cavities. I will photo this on the 6&1/2's. The 6&1/2's are on back order. Grrrr. They should be here in a few days. I will mount it up on the tower and fit the 6&1/2's when they arrive.

ralph 01-08-2007 3:43 PM

The mounting went well. I have used prowerks clamps and an alloy sheet front and back to give it a bit more support. It is really stiff and looks great. Sounds pretty good too, will be a lot better once the down speakers seal the box up. I should have the completed pics in a few days once these bloody speakers turn up.
Whats the opinion on stuffing the box with insulation, is it required?

sangerlover 01-08-2007 3:48 PM

Looks very clean. What are you powering them with?

ralph 01-08-2007 4:09 PM

Oh, well being a baller on a budget I have used a 4 channel Crunch V-4300 for the tower; 4 channel Crunch V-4200 for the in boat speakers and a Crunch V-1800 for the subs. The rear tower speakers fade off the "rear" channel on the deck and the down tower and in boat speakers fade off the "front" channel from the deck.

lukeduke95 01-08-2007 6:41 PM

How do you keep the box from "tipping" Are those clamps strong enough to keep the box from "swinging" back and forth under a lot of force? (like hitting another boats wake)

I triangulated three mounts on my box to keep it sturdy. Can't see it not causing stress with only two mounts.

ralph 01-08-2007 8:41 PM

Well I hope not! I mounted my last box the same way and it was fine for 3 years. It was all ply construction so probably a little more resistant to that type of stress. All up the box weighs around 50 pounds incl speakers. The plates front and back of the clamps help spread the "rocking" stress, Fingers crossed it will be ok. If I stop posting then you will know it has cracked and I have killed myself. Ha ha.

lukeduke95 01-08-2007 9:45 PM

Good stuff! I hope it holds!

ralph 01-13-2007 10:30 PM

Finally finished! Sounds pretty good, I have not retuned the amps yet. Here is a few final shots showing the completed wiring and the rubber on the back of the speakers.

wake_upppp 01-14-2007 8:56 AM

Nice job Darren. I would certainly line the walls with some poly fill mat, but not a necessity.

norcalmalibu 01-14-2007 3:05 PM

The tower box came out perfect.. Do you have any more pics of the whole stereo install? I have a v210 also and looking for ideas and tips.

ktmwakeboarder 01-17-2007 12:23 AM

beautiful stuff

sangerlover 01-17-2007 6:36 AM

That is the perfect shape and size for the proflight tower. Very nice work Darren.

BTW,I thought you were looking at a new boat? I might be thinking of another V210 owner.

ralph 01-17-2007 11:16 AM

Thanks guys, I am stoked with the finished product. Due to the way the box swoops up and mounts to the tower when you view it from the water it looks like it is floating between the bimini and tower, great!
I was looking for a new boat but I have not found anything I would rather have it this stage so I am considering buying an 86-89 2001 and set it up for salt water riding. While owning two boats makes my wife cringe I think it is supa fly.
Nate, there is not much else to see really, I have a 12" at the drivers feet and a 10" in one of the rear lockers. And 4 6&1/2"s in the factory positions.

(Message edited by ralph on January 17, 2007)
