Looking to buy a F250 - Extended Cab - Short bed - V10.... if anyone has one they want to part with let me know, Wisconsin area please

Thanks !!!

nasty530 10-05-2007 8:11 AM

I would HIGHLY recommend you stay clear of the V10. Not because it is a bad engine and has any mechanical issues but they are not known for any kind of good gas mileage. Especially when towing. What year are you thinking?

auto 10-05-2007 8:16 AM

^^^^^^
Exacly. You can;t give those things away down here.

codykauz 10-05-2007 8:23 AM

you would be much better off with a powerstroke, much better.

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 8:43 AM

powerstroke all the way

sanddragon2004 10-05-2007 8:56 AM

99-02 powerstroke !

v10s will pass anything but a gas station!

sanddragon2004 10-05-2007 8:57 AM

Plus for another 500 bucks you can add like 100hp easily! and gain 2% fuel economy!

nasty530 10-05-2007 9:24 AM

Although you may be wanting a newer truck, I would recommend you stay away from the 6.0L Powerstroke. Some people have gotten away with no problems at all, but many have had extensive issues with them. So much so that Ford was actually in letigation with the engine manufacturer because of the amount of warrenty issues they were having. The 7.3L has proven to be a very good engine and I have nothing but good things to say about mine and I have put it through hell.

sidekicknicholas 10-05-2007 9:56 AM

My friend is looking, he just don't want a diesel, i don't know why... he is all about the V10...

auto 10-05-2007 9:59 AM

^^^^^

He is going to be all about buying gas, and a lot of it

nasty530 10-05-2007 10:01 AM

they sound mean as hell wide open but they suck a rediculus amount of gas. I can't imagine why someone would want one. Make sure he shops around for one, if you do, you can get one CHEAP! No one is buying these so the people that really need to sell them are giving them away.

thor 10-05-2007 10:10 AM

I have a 99 F-350 with a V10, and I can confirm that your friend will not be happy with the gas consumption of this engine. Towing and driving around town I get around 10 MPG. On the freeway, not towing the boat, I can get around 13-14 MPG. Luckily I only work 2 miles from home.

guido 10-05-2007 10:20 AM

Power Stroke..... 20k miles and my truck hasn't even hiccuped. It's been flawless and tows like a dream.

The V10 does sound cool, though.

10-05-2007 10:35 AM

Just spoke to my buddy on the phone, who told me their 04 powerstroke, with 70,000 miles on it (not one problem untill now) blew up on the boat ramp at lake mojave, as they were backing their boat in. Thankfully they have an extended warranty.

wakesetter101 10-05-2007 10:38 AM

I have never heard any problems with the v10 engines. I dont think that 13-14mpg is really that bad as long as its not your daily driver.

In a few months i am going to try to find a v10 Ford Excursion. I am not a desiel person myself. I know they pull good but its something about that tractor sound.

nasty530 10-05-2007 10:38 AM

the 6.0's are ticking time bombs

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 10:58 AM

I work at a Ford dealership if you go with a 7.3 you wont regret it

(Message edited by lovin_the_wake on October 05, 2007)

nasty530 10-05-2007 11:02 AM

montgomery, what part of the dealership do you work in?

auto 10-05-2007 11:38 AM

Most 06-07 6.0l's have the kinks worked out. I will probably purchase one next year. I know more than 5 trucks in this range withover 100K miles, not an issue on any of them.

mastercraft1995 10-05-2007 1:08 PM

I had a 04, 6.0 it was a piece of junk. I got 14.5 on the HWY at 70, in town I got about 11 and towing the boat in the open road about 11.5. I'm not sure what people expect from a from a tow vehicle that puts out tons of power is super heavy and will pull a ton of weight. The v-10's are bullet proof and yes they like gas just like the diesels like diesel.

That being said I got a 99, 7.3 a couple of weeks ago because I got a smokin deal on it. If I hadn't of purchased the 7.3 I was going to get a v-10. gas is 30 cents cheaper here right now and the maintenance is also much cheaper on a gas truck.

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 1:15 PM

T-Bag I work in parts and service . . .

nasty530 10-05-2007 1:27 PM

Have you ever heard of or know anything about bolting an Allison 1000 6 spd tranny up to a 7.3L? My tranny has 150k on the clock with a huge lift and tires and constant towing, its just a matter of time till it goes. I just want to get started while I have the time.

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 2:10 PM

T-Bag I need a little more info. my tech wants to know if it's an old Allison 6 spd or a new one and if it's automatic or not he said they made a 6 spd auto and a 6 spd man at one point

codykauz 10-05-2007 2:24 PM

i drove from south central iowa to northeast ohio, just under 14 hours, in our '01 f350 powerstroke, 7.3, four door duelly, 6 speed. and pulling back my mobius xlv, which is right around 6000lbs i believe, tow weight, and four people in the truck and loaded down. we got 18 mpg on the highway doing between 70-80. and diesels mileage drops pretty hard over 70 mph. and its bone stock.

nasty530 10-05-2007 2:28 PM

Mont. I was thinking the new Allison 1000 that they are putting in the Duramax's. Def. need an auto...

Cody, that is awesome mileage. Is that going off the overhead console readout or by actually doing the math? It sounds a little too good to be true so if its the overhead, its prob off a little. But they do get good mileage.

thor 10-05-2007 2:33 PM

As for reliability, the V10 engine in my truck has been rock solid. I have almost 110k miles on my truck and I've never had a mechanical breakdown related to the engine.

Now as for the brakes on my truck, that is a different story. I have had the truck in for brake service atleast 10 times since I bought the truck new back in '99. Darn rotors keep on warping time and time again.

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 2:37 PM

T-Ball, OK he said your best bet would be to go to http://www.advanceadapters.com/ and he said if it's not listed on the site to call them

codykauz 10-05-2007 2:45 PM

t-bag, thats me doing the math. i think we got a little better on the way out there, about 1.5-2 mpg more, maybe. but yeah i don't ever trust the over head, especially not when it tells how many miles to empty.

sidekicknicholas 10-05-2007 4:33 PM

He doesn't want one because he cannot work on a diesel himself, gas engine is no prob. for him, and I guess he doeesn't really tow far/at all... but whoever said you cannot give them away, he'll take them

auto 10-05-2007 4:58 PM

^^^^^^

Why would you have to work on a diesel?

gobigorgohome 10-05-2007 5:22 PM

Wow, there's some low expectations on here. '20k miles and the truck hasn't hiccupped'. Well I should hope not - 20k miles is nothing!

God help the US car industry if the Japanese start putting big diesels in their trucks.

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 5:44 PM

^^^^^Wow did I call you T-Ball sorry that's my buddy's name that was obviously directed to T-Bag

nasty530 10-05-2007 6:24 PM

lol, its all good. I get called all kinds of things, that would be on the nicer scale of them

(Message edited by nasty530 on October 05, 2007)

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 6:59 PM

lol btw the tech also told me that BorgWarner makes a badass trans for your truck as well

nasty530 10-05-2007 7:03 PM

ok!?! and it is?! dont get me all excited and leave me hanging!

lovin_the_wake 10-05-2007 7:10 PM
