Good luck with the search Barry, it's a great lens. I found a very sharp, very clean copy last year in the local classifieds and picked it up for $650. I got pretty lucky with this find, as a buddy of mine has been unsuccessful in finding anything even close to that price. From what I've seen of his search they usually go for around $800.

Is that the lens known as the "magic drainpipe" or is it the 28-80L? <BR> <BR>Keep your eye on FM buy and sell, cause they do go fast.

Thanks for the help, guys. <BR>I found a copy for 700.00 that I'm going to inspect this afternoon. I asked him the date code and he says he doesn't know what that is. Could be bad, could be good!

Clean copy- He took 650.00 for it with Canon UV filter. Date code shows August '99. Anything I need to be aware of with the older version?

It appears Canon is still repairing them so you're good to go.
