I plan to ride behind both before deciding, but I thought I'd ask for opinions. I'm sure everyone will conduct themselves with the proper decorum. lol

Is there a big difference in wake between the two? I'm leaning toward the 15 for the extra length.

I've been behind a Maristar 215 w/ a tower and ballast and it was good... never been on a X-2 but the size would make me lean to a X-15 too

http://www.redlinewatersports.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?sid=08987085X2K15K2008J11I53I 24JAMQ2838R0&veh=448043

it has all the X-15 options w/o the graphics

(What I don't understand is why a similarly built Maristar 215 and Maristar 200 were listed as Intro boats???)

I don't have experience on/behind the X15, but the X2 rides MUCH bigger than a 20' boat. I was blown away with it's ability to handle chop and boat wakes. It was also very roomy. I kept saying 'this cannot be a 20' boat!'. The wake needs extra ballast.

(Message edited by Phat in cincy on February 15, 2008)

the x2 wake does need alot more ballast but can be nice. the boat itself if awesome

As a pure wake boat the X-15 would be my choice (I'm rocking one this summer). The hull is actually quite different than the X-2 and overall I prefer the handling and wake. That being said a good friend of mine has an X-2 and you couldnt talk him into anything else. We've had some awesome sets behind his, and hopefully we will behind the X-15 as well.

Both boats handle rough water excpetionally well, both accept (and need) additional ballast easily and both can throw up awesome wakeboard and surf wakes. I wish our lakes werent frozen, I wanna get out right now.

The Wakeboard Mag Virtual Test Drive is a friggin Joke. I wouldn't take into account anything it says.

I've ridden both and the X-15 is the right choice if riding is your main concern.

Last summer when Andrew Atkinson and Derek Grasman demo'd here in GR, they asked to use an X-15. That's endorsement enough for me. I suspect they could have ridden anything they wanted from action watersports and they were absolutely killing it behind the X-15.

The virtual test may not be as good as a demo, but it tells you a lot of useful info. In the test analysis section it gives you info you would normally have to search deep to find. Like gunwale height, and square footage specs. While its maybe not the best way to judge a wake (just by a picture and description), it's definitely a useful research tool for comparing boats.

Sorry that was off topic. I like the X-15. It has a giant cabin area (rear seating) for a twenty one foot boat like 65sq. ft or something while also having a clean classic look.

joe...im in gr too, did you go to the boat show yet?

dlamont 02-16-2008 5:09 PM

both wakes are very similar. handling is a little better in the X2, rough water ride is a little better in the X15. I think the comparison comes down to: how much room do you want? and do you like the pickle fork? I prefer the X2 because of how it drives. Either way you won't be disappointed.

joe_crawley 02-16-2008 10:20 PM

tyler- yes, I went Friday night and watched those guys at 7:00 kill it- too bad they didn't hit the kicker more than once.

On another note, even though I like MCs, it was awesome to see some MBs at the show for the first time. It's the first look I've ever had of an MB in person, very nice!

boarditup 02-18-2008 11:34 AM

Keep in mind that the X-15 choice was partially driven by stock wake with minimal ability to add extra ballast. With the FH system, the X2 does fairly well.

Karl, are you referring to Atkinson and Grasman's choice?

I imagine I'll be using stock ballast ~90+% of the time.
