wakeworld 07-31-2008 3:25 AM

As we do every year, we give you the chance to vote for the best innovation since we did our voting last August. I need as many nominations as possible and I don't want to miss any, so can you list all the innovations you can think of since this time last year? Thanks for your help!

helix_rider 07-31-2008 5:10 AM

GPS speed control system (not sure if new...I just don't remember it in previous years)

Is there a new innovation in the 'winch' scene?

How about 'fur' in CWB's boots

I like the grind base for sliders. Anything to make the boards last longer on sliders and kickers

want2ridealot 07-31-2008 5:56 AM

DINE cores

inty399 07-31-2008 5:59 AM

sesitec 2 cable system...will have a huge impact.

alevitt 07-31-2008 8:18 AM

Another vote for Sesitec System 2.0. The surface hasn't even been scratched yet. After running our pool jam at Wakestock, we're never going back to winches.

xbones 07-31-2008 8:24 AM

The beer comment is an absolute classic.

dblockklsoldiers 07-31-2008 8:28 AM

Whats the "SESITEC SYSTEM"?? 2.0

wakerider111 07-31-2008 8:53 AM

Danny,

Sesitec 2.0 is a portable cable system for about $30,000 and can allow a rider continuous ride back and forth for the max length of 700 ft. it just barely came out a month or so (less) for the USA.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

as for my votes: (not in any particular order)

1. Sesitec 2.0
2. Co. Wake Advertisements (not sure if this counts, in the running, but deffinately those ads have had a HUGE impact this year)
3. Fancy new cores (Dine, PVC, etc.)
4. Wake world Jerseys

helix_rider 07-31-2008 10:57 AM

The 'reverse' hinge on CWB was new this year, right? Not really new, but a nice improvement on a great product.

the_bum 07-31-2008 10:58 AM

I'll second the rockstar girls!

alevitt 07-31-2008 11:15 AM

jjakober 07-31-2008 11:25 AM

Grind Base Boards are not a new innovation.

O'Brien was doing it back in 2003

peterslc 07-31-2008 11:39 AM

The 2.0 cable does look pretty sweet. Anyone know how it compares to the actual pull of a tower cable park? I'd assume not nearly as much lift on air tricks. Maybe I need to start another thread.

electricsnow 07-31-2008 11:54 AM

Mutiny had "slider" or grind bases for their wakeboards in the late 90s, and liquid force used to have one as well (I can't remember what year--maybe 01 or 02??) it seems weird to count that as a new innovation, unless they're really different or far superior to their predacessors.

wakeworld 07-31-2008 11:58 AM

Wow, the lack of innovation this year didn't really hit me until I started putting this together. "Grind" bases have been around for years. GPS speed control was on last year's nominee list.

I think I'm going to leave the Sesitec 2.0 system for next year's voting since it really just made its debut last week, so very few have really had a chance to evaluate it.

So far I've got three different cores (yawn), HSE's Revolution Volume Control, Gator's adjustable fin and LF's Vantage high end Velcro boot. Slim pickings (no offense to any of the nominees).

Any other ideas? (Question sort of directed to wake industry)

hawkeye7708 07-31-2008 12:03 PM

D.R.I.V.E. judging system on the Pro Tour.

dh03r6 07-31-2008 12:05 PM

what about the beer?

wakeboardern1 07-31-2008 12:06 PM

Super magical edible chocolate cores. Company Wake FTW!

Sorry for that tangent.

Dave, I think you really did list just about everything that's new this year. Unless you count the Lyman board as a hybrid of flex and traditional boards, but that isn't really an innovation, nor is it really a hybrid.

innov8 07-31-2008 12:13 PM

I would have to also say the Integrity bamboo cores on there wakeskates.
Not to much to choose from in 08

joe_crawley 07-31-2008 12:19 PM

"2. Co. Wake Advertisements (not sure if this counts, in the running, but deffinately those ads have had a HUGE impact this year) "

I think those ads are great but what has been the huge impact?

ironj32 07-31-2008 12:21 PM

Slingshot binding insert patterns with the Traditional & 4 hole pattern, so you can use any binding. Even though you can't get the Liquid Force Plates on them with out modifying the binding plate

i have a feeling a lot of board company's will be using this in the very near future.

(Message edited by ironj32 on July 31, 2008)

mxflyer281 07-31-2008 12:22 PM

2.0 cable system if I had the money I would so have one. Its going to make rail jams amazing.

hawk7 07-31-2008 12:24 PM

the KGB 5? back nine? crow 7? 2 more 10's?

Ronix Dark Cores are new for this year, I realize its another core nominee but its only about .7 lbs heavier than the sub 6.

Slingshot D2 Bindings? I don't know a lot about them, they just seem like an innovation...

boat/board wraps? makes your stuff look cool?

stilts on hype bindings?

there were hardly any product innovations for this year.

edit: gangstar, I'd say Co. did a great job with thier ads. theyre everywhere, and sometimes, they don't even have to pay for them, like when my tv reception goes out for a couple seconds, theres a co. wake ad. there were about 12 threads on here about co. wake, etc. they did a good job.

(Message edited by hawk7 on July 31, 2008)

norcalbordr 07-31-2008 12:31 PM

Not to hijack this anymore but Origin Wakeboards had slider bases on all of their boards. They were only around for a few years, like 2000-2002 I think, give or take a few years.

adam_balon 07-31-2008 12:48 PM

siestec 2.0

lf vantage boots(velcro has been done before but not this good...)

F.A.E fresh air exhaust

and uhhh randall harris of course.

dadthedriver 07-31-2008 1:28 PM

Sesitec System 2.0

jarrod 07-31-2008 1:35 PM

hmmmm...these things don't seem all that impressive considering the entrees in previous years. Uhhh...especially not a companies advertisements. Are we getting desperate here or what?

canucked 07-31-2008 1:36 PM

squiggly, sort of bent looking towers

(centurion and nautique)

07-31-2008 1:37 PM

velcro boots shouldn't count. thats not new.

to_blind 07-31-2008 1:39 PM

INNOVATION, to me anyways, does not only encompass new ideas, but also improved ideas. does that open up the field at all?

bmartin 07-31-2008 1:46 PM

Rockstar girls +1
Slingshot universal mount + .5

steezyshots 07-31-2008 1:48 PM

Sesitec 2.o

Sub 6/ DINE

HSE Volume Control

wakeworld 07-31-2008 1:52 PM

High end Velcro-only bindings are new. It's not just that they use Velcro, but that it's the only thing used and it's a top-end binding used by pros.

wakeworld 07-31-2008 1:53 PM

Derek, idea improvements are certainly up for consideration, but it would have to be a major improvement. Throw them out here and see what everyone says.

adam_balon 07-31-2008 1:58 PM

light weight core shouldnt be a new innovation. hyperlite and obrien have been doing them for years. since like 04 i think.

new innovations..... not names for the same old thing.

adam_balon 07-31-2008 1:59 PM

what about jimmy redmond's custom wakesurfers..... not new to surfing but new to the wake industry.

the best surfer i have ridden in a while.

drive139 07-31-2008 2:09 PM

Hyperlite Marek

07-31-2008 2:20 PM

Dave,
What about hyperlites highbacks back a few years ago? Velcro only. Highend boots worn by pros. Think its kinda the same thing.

I agree innovation was slacking this year.

to_blind 07-31-2008 2:24 PM

The queen of wake isn't exactly new, but it is alot more legit now and we have already seen the benefits as far as exposure/coverage/pay-outs/etc.. I think the "new" queen of wake series is an innovation worth noting.

wakeworld 07-31-2008 2:29 PM

When you name a board, can you tell me what's innovative about it? Most boards aren't super innovative.

scott_a 07-31-2008 2:29 PM

Wakeboard socks!

Or should we just leave that one for next year when every company in the industry is making socks for their boots?

wakeworld 07-31-2008 2:31 PM

LF's Custom surfers were on last year's list.

I kind of agree on the some of the cores. Seems like they're more hype than anything. Giving it a fancy name doesn't really make it new.

romes 07-31-2008 2:37 PM

there's only been 2 innovations, meaning something new and innovative, not something that's been around for a while and just given a different name.

HSE's Volume Control and the Sesitec 2.o

hawk7 07-31-2008 2:38 PM

jessica beat me to it. weren't the highbacks a lot of peoples favorite bindings? I have some and might sell them.

if q.o.w. counts than D.R.I.V.E should count too right?

is the CWB downward hinge new for this year?

double lasted boots? not sure what it means but I don't remember it last year.

intuition liners?

powerbands?

R.A.D. shock absorbing foam?

beveled edges?

wakeworld 07-31-2008 3:12 PM

These are product innovations, so QOW and the scoring system aren't eligible.

Intuition liners were last year.

Beveled edges have been around forever.

Don't know what R.A.D., powerbands or double lasted boots are.

hawk7 07-31-2008 3:24 PM

I don't either to tell the truth, I do know that power bands are made to move your foot back when you tighten the laces and intuition liners are heat moldable, but you said theyre old. I figured beveled edges had been around for a while, I just wasn't sure, I just recently noticed that just about every board has them.

absoluteboarder 07-31-2008 4:12 PM

what about the 08 murray boots and byerly with the shock absorption system under the boot........and the Liquid force raised toe bed for increased leverage.....the murrays have it too if you take the footbed out and look at it.

The murrays also have an added inlay for under the footpad to customize the fit.

fredlap 07-31-2008 4:27 PM

I had a Obrien vision with the ImpactBase system and it sucked! It was like riding a concrete board!!! So, if somebody update and upgrade it, should be cool!!! It's not an invention but still an innovation!!!

kap 07-31-2008 5:18 PM

HSE's Revolution Volume Control, awesome product enough said

juniorhawk 07-31-2008 6:12 PM

2008 is the year wraps jumped the shark.

1. Correct Craft/Roswell's new tower. That tower is going to make all kinds of sense for all kinds of people.

2. Alliance Wake. I feel as if it is their year. Their stories, ads, photos and overall composition is simply unreal.

3. Better Web sites across the board. Among the popular manufacturers only Epic's site falls short now.

4. Super Air Nautique 230

5. MasterCraft CSX 265.

6. Ronix's wakesurf boards. Innovative shape - unique design, beginner friendly.

(Message edited by juniorhawk on July 31, 2008)

07-31-2008 7:00 PM

definetly the liquid force grind base.

wakerider111 07-31-2008 7:38 PM

What about that Oneil "revenge vest" i think it is. the one with an outer layer that zips over everything to make it look like a comp vest?

ehwake 07-31-2008 7:45 PM

in order to give next years innovations a chance perhaps you should count the Sesitec system in this year? This has so many possibilities, even in the winter....a snow park on the lake!

adam_balon 07-31-2008 9:04 PM

who ever wakeboards with socks is a douche. sorry but seriously. if companies would build lines out of materials that will actually dry.... this wouldnt be problem.

heat moldable liners are a step backwards. comfortable.... but a step backwards.

un-ovation of the year.

juniorhawk 07-31-2008 10:01 PM

That whole socks thing isn't real is it?

wakemitch 07-31-2008 10:21 PM

Socks are the best thing to happen to wakeboarding since the raley!

Does the Variable Rocker in the Murray count - Continuous on the outside, three stage through the middle?

romes 07-31-2008 11:02 PM

the witness had that in 07^^^

07-31-2008 11:59 PM

Here is a list of the ones I can think of:
1. Oneill Sliced foam (in the checkmate vest)
2. Gator Boards Adjustable Track Control System (Fin adjustment setup on Gator's model)
3. Centurion SurfRight System (reverse prop rotation)
4. Hyperlite Nova Core/Phalanx Construction (it is a totally new way of building a board to make it lighter/stronger)
5. Phase 5 Drew Danielo Carbon Boards (first carbon skim-type surfboard)
6. Inland Surfer Carbon Boards (first carbon surf-type surfboards)
7. CWB foam filled bi-level wakeskate (though this is kinda an 09 deal)
8. LF's new binding plate system and insert system (can make greater adjustments in foot width)
9. CWB's reverse hinge
10. CWB's new smaller footprint binding plate
11. Hyperlite's new boot construction method (Murrays and Byerlys)
12. Zero Off and Stargazer GPS cruise control.
13. Byerly's Monarch core (different flex patterns through board)
14. LF bringing velcro back with a vengeance in the Melissa and Vantage boots.
15. Wake socks???
16. Oneill floating zipper system (Revenge Vest)
17. Ronix building a wakeskate that doubles as a piece of weightlifing equipment (like 15 lbs.)

Thats all I have for now, though there are a lot more I'm sure.

adam_balon 08-01-2008 12:42 AM

done... done... it's over....

can i add a new catagory? "most amazing ••••••• the year...."

randall on company!!!
