- - Does anyone tow with 24 inch wheels? (http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=673544)

My wife is looking to get a new vehicle and we are looking at an 08 tahoe that is lowered 1"/2" with 24" wheels.

Will we run into problems towing with this setup? If so, what problems will we encounter? Any insight would be great.

My buddy tows an 07 X45 with a newer Escalade on 26's and it does just fine.

my friend has an 07 tundra dropped 3/5 on 24's and tows a trailer around no problem.

The lower profile tire is actually safer and more stable under emergency situations.Only downside is the replacement cost when you wear them out.
other things to consider would be the poor ride quality and the lowpro tracking rutts in the road.

24" wheels with a 2" drop in the rear, many miles with no issues.

I used my friends Tahoe on 24's to pull my 07 Moomba LSV......Scared the crap out of me !!!!
I don't know if it was the lack of power (4.8 motor I think it has in it) or just that it was all over the road. Call me hick all you want I could not wait to get my F350 dsl back. I thought I was going to kill that little Tahoe.

clay- it looks like you have larger brakes. If so, did you put those on after you got the wheels? Are the stock brakes fine?

They will work, but make sure you are within the weight capacities of teh rims and tires.

We test drove a Tahoe with 24s on it some time ago..... I guess I drove it a little hard. Because when we got back, I jumped out of the truck & the thing stunk like hot brakes bad. After looking around on the net, bigger brakes are recommended on a lot of rigs with big rims, especially if your hauling or towing with it. Might be a good idea to see what the General says about it.

Why were you so hard on it Bill??

psudy 02-26-2009 1:33 PM

My Wife has a Tahoe that I sometimes pull with. The motor is junk. It has no power to pass. My Escalade however yanks the boat really nice.

paul - do you have the 4.8 or 5.3? I haven't heard great things about the 4.8.

geistwatersportscom 02-26-2009 1:49 PM

I have 24's on my Escalade and tow an x star. No problems what so ever.

psudy 02-26-2009 2:06 PM

Its the 5.3. I could imagine the 4.8. They really screwed up when they got rid of the 5.7s. My old Yukon got better gas mileage than her tahoe.

Got to love that 6.2 huh Rob.

I've been towing with my expedition on 24's for about 4 years now. Not 1 problem. Good luck.
