I see alot of people here and even more so on wakeboarder throwing up the Nor Cal logo in there post's and sporting a Nor Cal pride type of vibe.
Thats cool. Im from what would be conciderd Nor Cal, Redwood city, and ride the Delta and other lake's in the regon but feel like there is a Division of Nor Cal Vibe is kind going off in a Million direction's. I have heard Nor Cal for standing for some weird thing's Have you heard this ? Like ganges and White Pride?? I know anyone can adopt a logo or look, but WTF. I know the Logo that has become popular was a local Surf Shop and it is cool to represent where your from ect. Im proud of where im from and glad to be a part. Just wanted to Ask a Question what does Nor Cal stand for or mean to you and where does Nor Cal Sart and Stop.

I'm actually a newcomer to the area, but I think the term "NorCal" most often simply represents a geographic region, just like SoCal, New England, the Midwest, etc. It is a widely used term. There is indeed a NorCal surf shop in Pacifica, between San Fran and Santa Cruz. They have nothing to do with the logo that has become popular. This line of shirts, hats, and stickers is a corporate thing being distributed by a larger company, I can't recall who. The guys at the shop in Pacifica told me that they have looked into legal action, as they feel somebody else is making money off their name, but I don't know much more about it. I suppose it might be hard to demonstrate copywrite infringement with such a generic term. If you do an internet search, there are a thousand ways that the term NorCal is being used, most generally in a geographic context. As far as gang affiliations or racist connotations, I hadn't heard that, but it sure would make me sad.

It dudn't mean jack to me - I'm from C-Flo.
Seriously though, I see where they're coming from. Cali is a big state and it seems like the two have different cultures to some extent.
I will say this, when it comes to wakeboarding, the boys in NorCal look like they're having more fun. ha ha I'm not trying to start a civil war, just addin' a little fuel to the fire.

Nor Cal is run out of Santa Cruz by NHS same company that make Santa Cruz Skateboards/Snowboards ,Independent Trucks and a few other brands. Believe it or not some people around here are starting to sport Cen-Cal that seems pretty stupid to me

Yeah, that's it... NHS. The boys in Pacifica were not to happy with them last I heard, but that was several months ago. For the record, the NorCal surf shop in Pacifica is a good store, run by core surfers, and their logos (to me) are way flyer than the ones we are seeing plastered everywhere these days by NHS. Check 'em out if you're in the area.

i was just at the NorCal shop in pacifica on friday, surfing at linda mar beach. i asked the guys if they were the starters of "NorCal" brand, and the dood said that they started printing out NorCal t-shirts a long time ago, but the other company ripped them off basically and went into mass production, so the stuff thats mostly out there is "fake" so to speak

NorCal in Pacifica has been around for a looooong time, cool shop! but I'm sure the term Nor-Cal has been around for an even longer time.

West coast vs. East Coast... now we're talk'in some action...!

So I'll get it started...

West Coast:
Better Surf
Better Snow
Better Weather
Better Chicks

East Coast:
Too Hot
Too Cold

psych3060 09-29-2003 6:14 PM

It all depends on where on the West Coast you live. In Southern CA never good snow, in Seattle and Portland hardly ever good weather. Now I agree with you on the better chicks thing , oh and the surf too!

I beleve Nor-Cal is just a lame clothing company available in surf shops up here.

wakinwestcoast 10-01-2003 6:14 PM

NOR CAL means i can see my feet in the water and can't touch bottom in the middle of the lake

scott_a 10-01-2003 10:01 PM

We should start a NorCal gang. I'll be the leader of the gang and my gang name will be "Booger". We can spend our days wakeboarding and intimidating the groms. We can model it after the Metal Mulisha www.metalmulish.com.

That would be some fun eh?

dcervenka 10-02-2003 10:43 AM

How about modeling it after the movie "The warriors"? You can be the leader of the roller skate gang...
