LT,

You can do a search and find a whole lot of information on this boat. I have not rode behind one, but it seems like most people are saying that the quality is not up to par w/ the bigger brands but coming together very fast and improving quick. As for the wake, most say its pretty much the sheezy. The boat also has a lot of cool features like vector steer, 8.1L engine, transom speakers and an awesome composite resin hull that keeps the boats trailerable weight down.

antbug 06-11-2007 8:53 PM

Here are a few pics of the boat and wake.

http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/460761.html?1181615002

Like Mike said. Do a search and you'll find a whole lot of info on this boat.

Holy smokes look at how huge that wake is. Massive.

wake1823 06-12-2007 7:09 AM

A picutre is like a statistic...I can make it read anyway I want it to. Not saying it's not big, but a good phtographer can make it look the way he wants.

stephan 06-12-2007 7:42 AM

Yes but a rider being 6 feet off the deck takes a good rider and a good size wake. The reports from the tournament it pulled in so-cal last weekend were that it is huge, one person said "my Super Air on steroids".

committed 06-12-2007 9:28 AM

I was at the comp last week, and the wake is not a myth. I don't know why, folks want to pretend it's not what it is, but just look at those pics above and look at the section from the bottom of the wake-out, that channel speaks volumes. The pics don't lie, if you know what your looking at. I've read everything, and went to the Comp with an open mind. I wasn't disappointed in any facet. Hell no, that boat ain't for everyone, but for those who appreciate function OVER form, this boat is the real deal. There is virtually no bling. It's purely a riders boat. I've read online all this BS about the exhaust being to loud and whatnot, but I don't know what guy, doesn't like to hear a lil rumble from the powerplant? It wasn't over the top either, the boat is very easy to look at, sounds great, produces one of the best wakes in the game. Don't believe me, take another look at the photo above and just "range" the sweet spot at the top of the wake! I've owned a few rigs, towed behind many more, and I have yet to see a wake like it. I'm not selling my towboat yet, but I will one day. I also hope that Epic stays away from the Blinggame, and keeps it simple. Simple translates into more riding time and less cleaning time.
Joe, if you hit this thread again, who is the SoCal retailer going to be? It was odd to see John from MB rolling the Epic, is he the guy?
Also the MB Tomcat that was there, was off the hook. I didn't get a chance to see the wake from it, but the boat was straight from the pages of a Magazine.........

guido 06-12-2007 11:37 AM

Stephan and Chris are on the mark... The wake is BIG. I'm not sure why anyone trys to argue that. The shape is purely rider preference. I like a MC X-star shape better personally, but I wouldn't ever turn down a ride behind an Epic. The boat gets on plane great considering the size of the ballast, it's easy to tow (being light when empty) and I think it looks decent. I really like what they're doing. My biggest complaint: The one I've seen were loud as hell. I like the sound of a big block anyday, but I don't need my boat to be loud. I'd rather listen to music rather than exhaust. My understanding is that they're making moves to remedy that situation.

Take a ride, then comment on the boat.

fatsac 06-12-2007 12:14 PM

Anyone know the MSRP on this boat? I saw a couple on BoatTrader.com for $65k. Are they really that much without any "bling"? I love the idea but not at that price.

guido 06-12-2007 1:13 PM

I'm curious what people are talking about when they say "without bling". They come with everything stock except a bimini from what I understand. Stereo with stern speakers, board racks, full ballast system, big block, speed control. What else do you want?

fatsac 06-12-2007 1:36 PM

Good point, Evan. I suppose "bling" refers to all the billet, gelcoat schemes and massive upholstery work in other makes. I prefer the less is more idea but still, at 65K?

committed 06-12-2007 2:32 PM

Fats is correct, that is what I was tryin to convey.
If the 23footer is really only 65K, then I would think that is a bargain for a boat of that size. Many others are well into the 70's, if not more.
Like I said, this boat isn't for everyone. Owner/riders, will enjoy this sled for what it is.

eubanks01 06-12-2007 2:47 PM

I'm not sure if I would call $65K for a 23' boat a bargain but that's just me!

You can get a loaded Malibu WSLSV (awesome wake as well) for way under that.

ryan27r 06-12-2007 3:48 PM

^^^^
Not way under 65 probably closer to 70...

hamkj 06-12-2007 5:02 PM

This is kind of the dilemna in Canada... with the oil/gas industry so hot... People (riders or not) are buying the biggest baddest boat... and the first thing they will tell you... is how much they paid... Most have never test driven the boat they bought, they just want some thing that looks "blingy". So we are seeing more and more X-Stars on the lake every day! They won't look at boats under $75,000.

I personally feel... that in the long term... Epic and other new manufacturers should stick to their guns... build quality, functional, performance minded, boats... They will capture their share of the market when people come back to earth and ride before they buy!

At the end of the day... a billet dash... billet this.. billet that... wont help the boat perform any better. And in the long run, if not well taken care of... will not look good in the future.

When you got the best wake out there... just step up with long term quality...

While others may like Bling... I like a boat that is reliable and care about the wake it leaves behind.

I don't care what it looks like on the trailer.. or in a magazine.. Keep it simple... keep it high quality!

johnny_defacto 06-12-2007 9:10 PM

I got a pull behind that Epic at the tournament too. Keep in mind that I suck, but I have ridden behind a few boats, stock and slammed... and the Epic wake was both slammed AND stock, the wake was HUGE!! Some of the good riders who get good pop off the wake look like they are hitting dubs everytime they hit the wake. The stock motor got to speed effortlessly and held it well, thats with 4K#s of ballast and 6 people in the boat.

Its a wakeboat... everything on it comes standard...4K#'s ballast, wakeplate, transom speakers and system, 8.1L big block... for that price on a 23 footer with these "extras" you will pay a lot more.

now the cons:
I didnt drive it, but i was a passenger for a few sets and my only complaint was that the engine noise in the boat was a litte much...

for a second year boat, the guys at Epic did a great job. i look forward to seeing where this company is headed.

big_ed_x2 06-13-2007 8:38 AM

Kyle, tho I agree the Epic is a great boat,I not sure what you mean by

<!-quote-!>quote:
They will capture their share of the market when people come back to earth and ride before they buy! <!-/quote-!>

Are you saying that the x-star does not drive well or kick up a great wake?

eubanks01 06-13-2007 8:55 AM

Ryan - It depends what market you are located in. I paid just over $50 two years ago for mine.

committed 06-13-2007 9:17 AM

"Are you saying that the x-star does not drive well or kick up a great wake?"

(yawn)

hamkj 06-13-2007 9:45 AM

"They will capture their share of the market when people come back to earth and ride before they buy!"

I am not saying anything bad about anyone elses boat... My personal opinion is if Epic or any other manufacturer can come out with a well built performance minded boat... at a price much lower than others... they will do well.

I look at our local Supra/Moomba dealer. And our MC dealer.

It was only a few years ago.. where consumers were buying the more scaled down (less bling) versions of the boats we see on the lake today.

Now that housing prices have doubled... everyone and there dog have taken equity out of their home to "upgrade" their boats... what I mean by that.. is performance wise.. I don't think they are upgrading... but they are getting more billet, more stainless, more chrome, more speakers etc...

But where the hull meets the water... no difference.

I think the X-Star kicks up a great wake. I have a friend who bought one... $92,000.... and he has fat sacks that we have to step over to get around the boat...

I will tell you one thing for myself... I wouldn't want clutter in my $90,000+ boat... It better be perfect at that price...

When most of today's researched hulls are just some extra ballast away from being a tournamnet sized wake... I will pile sacks up all over a "bare bones" boat... but if I'm paying top dollar... I don't think I should have to put sacks all over the boat.

Just my opinion...

jusstty 06-13-2007 10:03 AM

It is massive.

guido 06-13-2007 10:32 AM

Kyle.... I agree that the X-star is under-ballasted from the factory, but there is no reason to be stepping over sacs with all the space in the boat. We've got a sac in each rear compartment and some lead in the nose and the wake is absolutely massive.

$100k for a boat is a bit rediculous, though. I like the idea of getting the big Epic for $60k and the smaller Epic (that's supposed to hit the market???) for around $50k. That'd be pretty ball park as far as I'm concerned.

$65k for a Malibu LSV would be unheard of around here. You could barely get a loaded VLX for that much. I'd think more like $70k. I'll be honest though.... If I've got $70k to spend I wouldn't think twice. I'd buy the Malibu over the Epic. That's the hurdle that Epic has to overcome. Bringing the boat in at a price point below these guys is going to be key.

cranfaster 06-13-2007 10:32 AM

Epic just pulled the Canyon Lake Wakeboard Club contest, check out the discussion boards, everyone was super stoked on the wake. MB Boats is the local Epic dealer in so cal, www.MBboats.com.

innov8 06-13-2007 10:41 AM

If you can pay 90,000 for a boat, you would think you could spend a couple grand to have fat sacs installed in the many compartments that an X Star has to add weight and not have to walk over fat sacs to get around the boat, we run close to 4000 pounds in our X Star and there is not one bag to step over.

The Epic is a sick boat, I like what they are doing and I think they will do just fine.

running_turtle 06-13-2007 1:46 PM

Does any1 no when they will get a dealership in Florida i want to test out this boat.

hamkj 06-13-2007 1:54 PM

Evan.. those are exaclty my thoughts.. and that doesnt just go for Epic.. but any new compnay... if they are within a stones throw away from the price of one of the bigger established companies... it would be hard for me to throw money at the unknown.. rather stick with the more familiar brands.. easier resale too.

I would imagine that an Epic is going to be about $70k cdn and maybe a smaller version at $60k cdn.

I was just looking at a price quote on the BU V-Ride with some extra goodies... it was less than $65k cdn including taxes... so that is the tough part for new builders.

I hear you guys on the X-Star.. plumbing in sacks etc... but again.. that is my point...

They are storage compartments... If I have 10 guys on my boat... then I need 10 vests... and their damn bags, shoes, and other stuff they would like to keep dry... In addition.. first aid kit, boat bumpers, extra equipment etc... that all ends up on the floor when the sacks are full.

With the Epic... you have the same.. if not more storage than any other boat of similar size.. with or without the ballast full.

But does that mean if I had $80-$90k... to spend.. would I buy the Epic over another name brand boat... hmmmm....

Price and some more history of use on the Epic would be the ultimate factors....

I would take an Epic at $50,000 over an X-Star at $80,000... but any more than that... sheesh... the decision becomes so much harder...

I think if they can just get boats built and in the hands of end users... and get excellent service when required... and keep any major problems to a minimum...

They will build a great reputation and then oversome some of the short term hurdles... and then be able to charge comparable prices.

If I had money to burn... I would get one in a heartbeat.... but as a professional discussion board author... the cheques are not rolling in. My fast food job ain't paying so well either... at $10.65/hr I dont think I will be buying much... other than the odd tank of gas.
