A good one to use is to move toward someone and zoom out at the same time. It's hard to describe but looks cool.

Also, try to throw in some time lapse type stuff. On a past video I had a time lapse going, and also had color keyed some video of me (Skiiing) in there too, it turned out really well and is very dream like.

time lapses always look nice, but sometimes are over done, (mtv kills time lapses on their shows), but its good for time perspective and putting on certain moods.

my favorite is to do the dramatic flashing between scenes, where you keyframe the levels spiking up and down 2 times, with a blur, as well as adding a slight hue change with it to be more dramatic. i saw this effect a lot in the movie man on fire. theres lots of tutorials at www.creativecow.com

Hey Chad, are you talking about the effect like on Poltergeist.. where she's in the hall and the hall is like getting longer. (but only in reverse from what you sound like)

I believe that's actually done on the camera itself.. usually a dolly track and zoomed out as the camera is dolly-ed in.
