I was just wondering the best way to get sponsored. I live in Dubai, UAE and just want to know what the best way to get noticed is.
Thanks:D

andy_nintzel 09-10-2008 8:40 AM

Keep posting on wakeworld!

tribute 09-10-2008 9:06 AM

like what, pics, videos. that type of stuff. or just asking questions

jarrod 09-10-2008 9:10 AM

just be active and influencial in the wake community. Get to know the local shops, and the board reps.

suckbuthavefun 09-10-2008 9:16 AM

I think the main thing is that you learn how to spell SPONSOR!

canucked 09-10-2008 9:16 AM

Be really good at wakeboarding

tribute 09-10-2008 9:22 AM

Thanks.
whats wrong with the way i spelled it? its the exact same way as you:P

tribute 09-10-2008 9:25 AM

Do any of you guys live in the Middle East as well. or just North America?

jsweat 09-10-2008 9:35 AM

if you live in dubai try to get to know all of the people at the liquid force factory and see what you can do for them just build relationships

jarrod 09-10-2008 9:36 AM

Being really good at wakeboarding helps, but its not always necessary.

Research local events. Do you guys have boat shows? Offer to work the booths for a board company, learn the products, and help them sell.

tribute 09-10-2008 9:56 AM

Ya we do, but i think im too young to participate seeing that i'm only 14. but thanks for the great advise, really helpful.

Im trying to land a fs 540 but i just can't get it. i can fs 360 and almost do it backside. Is there any tricks that will help me spin faster or pass the rope easier?

helix_rider 09-10-2008 9:56 AM

Jeremy, I don't think Tim's point was out of line...I know that when reading through resumes, I immediately toss applicants with several blatant grammatical errors simply because that points to a lack of attention to detail. From a sales perspective, communication skills are the key, and so I would think spelling sponsor with an 'e' might hurt his chances. That said, we all make mistakes, but having someone proofread your correspondence might not hurt

tribute 09-10-2008 10:03 AM

oops, my bad. haha that is embarrassing. but im only 14 so cut me some slack

jsweat 09-10-2008 10:06 AM

i understand yea he misspelled it in the title but spelled it right here in the convo. either way i apologize my response has been deleted so there ya go it just seemed he could have said it in a nicer way or maybe givin him advice on how to get sponsored. not just immediately cut him down.

norcalbordr 09-10-2008 10:42 AM

start by taking off the gloves when you ride, unless you want a glove sponsor. Just messin with you kid.

andy_nintzel 09-10-2008 10:50 AM

Drew,

Get on a tramp that will help you learn the rotation. Going form 3 to 5 or 5 to 7 a lot of people will spot there landing inbetween 180s which is just a force of habit. Tramp training will help you learn the rotation.

Also I suggest building a handle pass trainer. It's basically a Wake Handle attatched to a bungee cord then to a gallon milk container full of sand. Practice passing that, as your pass it, turn your body in the other direction to increase the speed of the passes. This builds muscles and muscle memory to get the passing down.

tribute 09-10-2008 10:58 AM

ok awesome, so on the trampoline should i use a type of board, like a skateboard or my actual wakeboard. Andy wat spin are u doin in you pic, its awesome:D

tribute 09-10-2008 11:00 AM

dude jason u have the Malibu Wakesetter VLX. thats like my favorite boat:D how is it

norcalbordr 09-10-2008 12:36 PM

I don't have a VLX anymore. I used to but I sold it once I bought my condo. My buddy has an 07 VLX though so I get to ride on his every weekend. Its the sickest boat I've ever ridden on. I've yet to ride on a new X-star so I know people want to compare VLX vs X-Star vs SAN. I've ridden on plenty of boats and the VLX is by far the best wake I've ever ridden.

andy_nintzel 09-10-2008 3:23 PM

Drew,

On a tramp I would try to get your hands on a Guru Tramp Board they ar great for tramping and wont hurt your tramp. I use a old wakeboard that I cut down, filed down then wrapped in foam. It works pretty goot.

As for the picture, That is Mid Toe seven. Thanks for the props on the picutre!

wakedad33 09-10-2008 4:57 PM

**HIJACK** Andy, do you know the dates for your trip to shred the Pow at Bachelor. Alex and Rob C are both instructing this winter so you should get hooked up with passes. **HIJACK OVER** Sorry

tribute 09-10-2008 8:38 PM

Sweet, i checked it out online and couldnt find too much on it. what about the B2 Bounce Board. would that work as well?
Thanks a lot for your help:D

tribute 09-10-2008 8:40 PM

thats awesome. i wish i had that boat. Its hard to get boats out here cause you have to order them all the way from the states. But thats the boat im hoping to get when we go back to Canada

poon 09-11-2008 10:08 AM

Network and make yourself known. Bottom line... Sponsors want exposure and they want people buying their stuff. You need to be influential enough so that people will want to support the companies that you are sponsored by.

hawaiianstiln 09-11-2008 1:25 PM

you don't have to be good at boarding to be sponsored. I'm an advanced rider (only have 5 diff inverts, etc..) and have been sponsored by CWB (team faction) and now Ronix. I'm not sponsored because of my riding...Well, it helps! CWB sponsored me when I lived in Hawaii because I was trying to help out the community in the islands and push CWB. It's not how much they can give me....But it's really how much I love the company that sponsors me and how can I help them out. If they push me a board, bindings, rope/handle, clothing every year, then great. But never expect it. Just be happy to help a company that you believe in. The free stuff usually comes about. However, I don't expect it (ever). Hope this helps

tribute 09-11-2008 1:43 PM

ya it does. Thanks for the awesome info, this really helps:D

joe_l 09-12-2008 4:14 PM

hmmm well just have fun and go to contests. work hard.

shaunm000 09-13-2008 9:58 AM

Get in good with a local shop. Help your local rep sell and demo product. Dont act like your the best rider on the planet, be humble. The rest will come.

tribute 09-20-2008 6:34 AM
