Hey, does anyone have XM stereo installed in your boat,or truck? How do you like it, and can you have one unit for both the truck and boat? Are there different plans to purchase, or is it one basic price?

I have XM in the rig and the boat and love it.My Denali came with the XM so I bought a satelite ready deck for the boat. There is only one "package".But I pay I believe $13-14/month for the 1st subscription then each receiver on the acct. is like $5-6 more per month.Go to xmradio.com for more info.

i have sirius in my work truck... and i am gonna pick up a deck for the boat...

music wise i think there the same.. but the talk stuff seems better and the comedy channels are great.. blue collar rocks

Just to throw this out there... XM has commercials on alot of their 'music stations' now, practically eliminating the reason for satellite radio. (My brother has XM)

I've been a Sirius subscriber for 3 years and I love it! Same price for Sirius and XM

I have XM in my Denali and couldn't live without it while on the road. I purchased a walkman-type XM radio for use while working in the yard. It came with a home adapter/charging cradle and a separate auto adapter/charging cradle. I keep it plugged into my home stereo most of the time and take it on the boat with the auto adapter whenever we go to the lake. It plugs into the 12v plug and into my ipod input. It works great. Good reception even in the canyons at lake powell.

I have a in my truck. I also bought one that sit in a cradle for my wives' van, I got an extra cradle for the boat, so I use her XM in both, works great.

XM's has commercials on 4 of there music channels because they lost a lawsuit with clear channel. XM11, 21, 22, and one more now have commercials because they are run by CC. XM added 17, 26, 30, and 78 so that they still have 69 commercial free channels. The only reason I know this is because I started getting pissed hearing commercials on stations that were commercial free and they told me what happend and how they had tried to fix it. I drive 12 hours every weekend to and from work and I love having Sat Radio.

Had Sirius on my boat, used it only a handful of times, and just let the subsription run out. I listen to mp3/cd music 99% of the time.

We have Sirius in our Jeep. It is great, and I think worth the money although we do not listen to it all the time. With somewhere around 200 channels, it can be a PITA to find what you want. I think that in a boat, unless you have good access to your head unit you may be frustrated going through all the channels.

Wow.. Thanks for all the info. It sounds like it's the way to go. Now the only decisions is XM or Sirius. I'll go on the web to both and try to figure out which one is best suited for what I want (LOUD boat music).

suprarider 07-26-2006 8:55 AM

Sirius has way better rock stations- bar none.
We have a portable unit that we use everytime we are in the boat, it's awesome.

extremeisaac 07-26-2006 9:18 AM

I have XM in both cars and the boat. I have 1 unit and 3 docking stations. just take it from whichever car im driving and to the boat. I havent listened to the "radio" since I got it

norcalmalibu 07-26-2006 9:27 AM

My buddies have XM in there GMs, I use Sirius in my fords and the channels are alot better. You can go to Sirius.com and sign up for a trial and listen to the music from there website.

boarder_x 07-26-2006 9:32 AM

Get an IPOD with docking station. Works better then XM, and you can here the music you want to hear, not what someone is playing.

leaks 07-26-2006 10:55 AM

Robb (two B's) your right with the I pod idea, My girls have theirs and plug in all the time. I guess I just don't want to mess with the whole downloading thing. Picking enough good tunes to last a day out would be way too stressfull for me. I just want to turn on a station, and listen to different stuff all day.

boarder_x 07-26-2006 11:06 AM

Greg, it is a PITA, but, you don't really need to download them. Just take CD's you have, and put the songs you like from them, on the IPOD. ... I just haven't gotten motivated yet.

mikeski 07-26-2006 11:53 AM

I use my roady XM in the home, car, truck, SUV, and boat. I use the IPOD most of the time but XM breaks the monotony of the same old songs.

It beats paying multiple monthly service fees. Sirius has portable/moveable units too.

taylormade 07-26-2006 5:55 PM

I had XM at work and got Sirius about 1.5 years ago. IMHO Sirius has much better programming. I'm a huge Howard Stern fan, but even if I weren't they have all the NFL gmmes and that's so nice when you're out in the boat and have the lake to yourself. If you're not into HS, but still like a little "edgy" humor, Jim Breuer has a daily show as well. Good stuff.

roughrivermike 07-26-2006 6:18 PM

I had XM on my last boat, I have serius on my current boat. I agree with Curtis: I listen to CD's 90% of the time. When I'm just floating I really enjoy the sat. When we have a rider, they want to crank their music. Either CD or MP3. I do think that XM customer service was a little easier to deal with. I can't complain about serius though.Technology is great!

sirius is much better imo. the programming is far superior. i have sirius but my buddy that i ride with has xm in his boat. its hard to find something decent to listen to on xm. however they did just get liquid metal back.
