Has anyone tried this prop? I was told by OJ that this was supposed to be the new ultimate prop for wakeboarding. I was also told that this prop would not only give me more low end, but that it would also help to shape the wake and smoothe it out.

Currently I have the OJ 14X18 on my 02 X-Star/X2/X1. I am not one of the most hard core wakeboarders, but when I ride, I do like to weight the boat down with about 1700 lbs of ballast.

My question is this: am I going ot loose all top end if I go with the 14.25X14? I have heard that with some of the pure wakeboarding props that the boat would only top out at around 30 mph. I would like to go with a prop that would give me a little more low end than I already have and will help smoothe out the wake, but I don't want something that will keep me from being able to cruise the lake at a decent speed.

Any info would be much appreciated...

Matt,

I demoed 2 OJ props on our '04 205v. One is the EDGE you are referring to and the other was a 13.7 x 17. The prop that came on the boat was a 13.7 x 19.5.

The 17 pitch was an obvious improvement over the stock prop, but I thought there would be times that with full ballast and loaded with people the prop may stuggle a bit (which I confirmed).

The EDGE is/was an arm jerker! It'll get a fully loaded boat out of the hole and up to speed FAST!
With about 1800lbs of ballast the 19.5 ran @ ~3000RPM, the 17 @ ~3200RPM, and the EDGE @ 3500RPM.

According to my MC speedo (I heard PP speedo might not be real accurate above WB speed), speed at 4500RPM (rec WOT range) with the EDGE was about 38MPH.

Gas consumption was fairly consistant b/w the 17 and EDGE. Similar outings I burnt about 7gals with the 17 and 8gals with the EDGE. What the EDGE might loose in sustained higher RPM may be offset by being out of the whole and on plane faster than the 17 taking longer to get up and out.

End result: Although I thought the 17 pitch would work fine 90% of the time...my EDGE will arrive about Wednesday. We 95% wakeboard/wakesurf and the EDGE will suit our needs 100% of the time. Also, I talked with Eric Johnson at OJ and he's going to 'cup' my EDGE just a little. It'll help bring the RPM difference at WB speed a little closer to the 17pitch and add a little to the top end.

I'd suggest you call OJ and talk to Eric.
www.ojprops.com

(Message edited by P-hat in Cincy on June 18, 2006)

I'm running the .100 cup (model 498 i believe) on my 06 malibu 23 with an 8.1 and love it. SO much better than stock with weight. (boat would not handle what I run (full factory ballast, wedge, 440 in walkway, and 750 in each rear locker. With the xmp it pulls right out. Also, I only lost about 3mph on my top end.

Mark,
It's OJ part #472, 14.25 X 14 LC 4-blade XMP EDGE, but MC uses a splined shaft (not sure about Moomba).
I believe the prop Eric sent me was "#510, 14.25 X 14.5 LC .110 cup Splined XMP EDGE 4-blade" and then he suggested adding 0.020" cup...therefore .130 total cup. Eric would need to confirm.
Paul

EDIT: I should clarify the MC has started using a splined shaft since '03?

(Message edited by P-hat in Cincy on June 18, 2006)

Hmmm, methinks I'll be giving OJ a call pretty soon. I have (maybe the original) 13.25 x 19.5 4 blade OJ on my 04 X2, and I really need the holeshot when I'm loaded down. It DRAGS with 2400 lbs on it.
