best place to hold the handle

Does anybody have some good advice on the best place to hold the handle in relation to your body while wakeboarding? thnaks

bill_sloan 04-25-2010 5:58 PM

Hip level as close to your hips as possible. Unless actually doing a trick.

are your hands spread across the handle?

younguns44 04-26-2010 9:04 PM

do you hold it in that spot when you are in the flats heading towards the wake?

TheSarge 04-27-2010 9:13 AM

Handle at your hips and elbows in for sure. That rider looks to be backfoot heavy(not ideal) weight should be evenly distributed when tacking off/landing.. well maybe a bit more on the tail but definitely not like that. Hands should be as wide as possible as often you use the handle in the air to balance or atleast I do.

younguns44 04-30-2010 9:52 PM

Whats a good handle width?

TheSarge 05-01-2010 7:55 AM

Wider is better.

younguns44 05-01-2010 9:04 PM

cwb4me 05-02-2010 7:09 PM

Do gloves help or take away?

ilikebeaverandboats 05-04-2010 1:00 PM

Dont wear gloves, just get a nice handle and you wont need them.

TheSarge 05-04-2010 2:15 PM

Bret.. definitely no need for gloves unless its very cold outside. Maybe we need to get together and ride soon. Not sure how long you have been riding but getting basic fundamentals down will make things alot easier later on and it helps prevent injuries from happening.

Ive been only riding a short time and I'm not very good but have been looking at getting some new gear, we are looking at going out saturday, you interested in going?

TheSarge 05-04-2010 8:09 PM

For sure. Just would need to be off the water by 3:30 or 4pm so I can get home to watch my 16month old.

younguns44 05-04-2010 8:26 PM

yeah even if we stay out I can run you back to the dock. Let me check with wifey make sure we can go saturday.

TheSarge 05-04-2010 9:27 PM

I also have like 3 handles ropes that you could try out and see what kind you like as well. Great driver and great at instruction too.

something clicked yesterday while I was riding when it comes to handle placement, i was just keeping my arms basically straight and leaning back enough to keep the handle closer to my hips and always felt off balance on w2w jumps, well yesterday i was working on w2w 180's, yeah i'm a rookie too, and started doing small outside in 1's, but the difference in yesterday and the previous trips i tried what my mind felt was pushing the handle down on my cut in, it put the rope much closer to my hips and i was always on balance when i jumped, greatly improved my balance on my w2w's also, and it helped me land my first hs w2w 180 smoothly on the first attempt (before losing it shortly after trying to switch it back), same concept worked on my toeside w2w jumps too, feel like i got them dialed in yesterday, so having said all of that push the handle as low as possible without bending your back, i seem to think this little discovery is going to help out a ton and let me improve much faster now and have more confidence

younguns44 05-12-2010 6:39 PM

Hopefully I'll be able to give that a try this weekend.

hyperlite 05-13-2010 3:59 AM

i keep my hands in the middle of the handle, next to eachother.

younguns44 05-13-2010 11:58 AM

is there a big difference on hand placement
