I disagree with Kenny. When the boat is off you should be able to spin the prop.

Kevin you should beable to turn the prop with a good tug, but you shouldn't beable to spin it fast or anything.

Depends upon the cutlass bearing. Squirt some WD-40 on that bearing and you should be able to spin it. I will have some resistance due to the tranny. As to how much, depends upon the tranny.

Hard to know what you consider to be a "litle muscle". <BR> <BR>If the cutless bearing (the sleeve in the strut that holds the prop shaft under the boat) is dry then the friction will certainly be greater than if it was wet. It should still be an easy, one hand spin however. <BR> <BR>If it takes a fair amount of torque to get it to spin then it may be indicating that the shaft is out of alignment with the transmission/engine. If this is the case then the shaft has to bend as it rotates. <BR> <BR>The best thing to do is to compare it to someone else's boat. Next time at the launch ramp ask someone if you can spin thier prop!

I should have been in detail, I thought you were refering to spining it easily and such. I agree with these guys.

Rod, <BR> <BR>I can see it now.... 'Hey, can I spin your prop?' followed by a strange look from the boat owner. <BR> <BR>The prop should turn, but will not continue once you let go. In addition if you are looking for a shaft problem you will see some runout in the center of the shaft. Runout is when the shaft is bent and appears to waver back and forth. Another indication of a problem is when the shaft actually moves forward and backward slightly. <BR> <BR>Good luck!
