I have a one of those 2 blade ones thats supposed to dig into the bottom, but it totally sucks, I keep drifint whenever I try to anchor.. is there a better anchor out there that someone can recommend that works for them?

boss210 05-31-2007 9:32 AM

is your anchor coated with the rubber stuff?? if it is that's why it doesn't stick. Also if you use 5' of chain and anchor rope (its a stretchable rope) just about any size anchor will work. Also I carry 2, one for the lakes one for the river.

The best no matter what is a Box Anchor.

extremeisaac 05-31-2007 9:43 AM

Phillip, no rubber coating, and I have 5 foot of chain and then rope..

Shane, whats a box anchor?

If you're referring to a navy anchor when you say "2 blade", they are pretty much worthless. I use three bladed river anchors. One in front and one in back. They hold really well for me.

I use the same river anchor on ours & it is worthless IMO. It just drags us right along if there is any wind at all.

here in the sacramento river we have a currant of 7mph. I use the standard $25.00 anchor with 10' of bungy line and rope and my anchor stays all day. If you use enough lead rope just about any anchor will hold. 10` for every 1` of water I think is the rule.

that has the rubber coating on it if you have the same one as in the picture.

big mushroom anchor with an anchor buddy system. It has never broken loose, even in a variety of bottom conditions.

auto 05-31-2007 10:27 AM

Bocephus, got it right, does not move in a 7 mph current or multiple same time passes from boats that are slammed. Rig it with bungee and tie it to shore.

Box anchor

This would work great!

michael_h 05-31-2007 10:52 AM

that will work fine just get an anchor buddy toss the anchor off the front of the boat and back in and its set...

wakejunky 05-31-2007 11:48 AM

I use a Fortress anchor. Light because it's aluminum and it holds real well. This has been discussed before. Do a search.

Chris
Get the Grip you Deserve
www.wakejunky.com

dont take that the wrong way

evansw6 05-31-2007 12:27 PM

Box anchor with an anchor buddy rope is the way to go. I just put my setup to the test last weekend and it held my Supra in place in 35 mph winds with 4 foot swells. Not a good time making it make to shore though. I couldn't make it to the trailer and hand to tie to a dock. the boat next to mine sunk over night. I was all good though.

extremeisaac 05-31-2007 12:40 PM

I was on the Columbia River in Washington state. You just never know there with the canyons that line the river. It was glass all the next day. Go figure.
