Hi!
So me and a friend is looking to buy a old SkiNautique 196 2002 and mounting a tower on it.

Has anyone got any experience riding behind one?
Hows the wake?(i know older ones throw a better wake due to the hull design 96-98)
Does it have any known problems?
How much ballast can you put in it?

At the moment this boat is THE option for us to buy since the second hand market for boats in sweden aint all that great.

Thanks

/Matte

(Message edited by matte_th on March 19, 2008)

The 196 is a hardcore slalom boat. If you slalom ski, it's a great choice.

ok

maybe i should have said that we are going to use if for wakeboarding .. but i guess that's out of the question then?

You would be better off being patient and finding something else. Crap if you are going to buy a closed bow direct drive save yourself 20 grand and buy 82-89 Nautique 2001. Awesome wake and there are no other big time advantages of owning a 196 other than newer and that it probably has perfectpass. If it is in the 30k range you should be able to find a nice V-Drive that you will be a lot happier with.

Just noticed that you are from Sweden so you might not be able to be picky.

slalom hull: it will take lots of ballast to get a wake out of.
low freeboard: "optimal" ballast could make the boat dangerous.

No idea of what your options are, but there has to be other boats over there. list a few of the others.

matte_th 03-19-2008 1:29 PM

Yeah like Brett said im from sweden ..i don't have a lot of options.

There is about 20 "real" wakeboard boats on the second hand market and they are REALLY overpriced.

a Tigé 22itype r 2002 for $49,043 USD
a MASTERCRAFT X-14 2007 for $80,922 USD
a MasterCraft X-2 Saltwater Series 2007 for $94,817 USD
a Supra launch SSV 2004 for $61,304 USD

you get the idea

And the other boats are just your normal lets_go_out_on_a_fishing_trip_boats were the sellers put in .. "its perfect for wakeboarding and water skiing"

But I'm just going keep on looking, might get lucky.

thanks for the answers

/Matte

I have a 1999 Air Nautique with tower, ballast, RPM Perfect pass, heater, shower, tower speakers, board rack, 6 dics cd changer, cover and trailer for $21,900.00USD let me know if interested.

Chris, i'm sure that price includes shipping to Sweden, doesn't it.

search mastercraft 205, nautique sport/super sport. you don't want the flagship "wakeboat" from any manufacturer, cuz it will pull a big premium over there. you need to find a ski boat, and make a wakeboat out of it.

boats4every1 03-20-2008 9:15 AM

Nacho. Hey It can include shipping. How quick do you want it to get there? cause it might take a while at that price.

psudy 03-20-2008 11:26 AM

How much would it cost to ship a boat over there? At those prices(if they are getting them) it could be well worth it.

Mathias, find out how much it is to Insure and ship a boat. we can set up an escrow through a bank to ensure the funds are used properly, and I will ship you a boat. For a fee of course.

Did a quick search on some swedish boat sites on how other people have done it and found...

http://www.boats.de/english/English.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CE_mark
http://www.ceproof.com/Marine/marinehome.htm

and its just not the boat that has to be CE marked, its 10 things in the boat/engine that need CE certification.

I will probably earn a buck on importing a boat from the US, but is it worth all the time and work put in to it?

xbones 03-29-2008 6:18 AM

You could drive over

kko13 03-29-2008 10:43 AM

how much is the 196 going for?
that tige would fit your needs much better but that price is way high compared to what they sell for in the us. but if you were gona spend that kind of money on the 196 (wich is not good for boarding at all) that tige is a better option for you its a very good wakeboard boat for a DD.
