I've been wanting to do this for a while just havent gotten around to it. I want to turn one of my coolers into almost what you would call a portable boom box. It'll mainly be for when we're off the boat hanging out, and camping. One of my buddys had one a while back and I never got around to asking him how he did it, though it seems pretty easy.

I just need help on putting it together. Im thinkg of running 4 speakers with one amp and im still looking into a battery. I might run a blue top, those things last forever, plus it would be nice. And past that I dont know whether to run and ipod or a deck.

Also would it be possible to run an input audio jack from my ipod straight to the amp and have sound?

We have Ice chest with wheels like a wagon, we did a full blown system in one. Head unit, amp, mids and highs and a 8inch sub. Even a couple of LED lights.

kody_a 05-19-2007 5:51 AM

How many batteries did you run, or better how long could you play it? That sounds awesome btw.

goose_sound_box_marine 05-20-2007 7:36 PM

we just finished one I will try to load some pics. it turned out great.

you can see it at our site www.soundboxav.com look under featured boats, at the bottom

kody_a 05-21-2007 6:58 PM

Is that like a minor fuse box in the corner? Also how long will the battery last?

ponyh8r 05-21-2007 7:24 PM

KHA, that is a fuse box. It allows the user to cut power to the deck from the battery. Soundbox built this cooler for a friend of mine who wanted it for his lakehouse parties. Let me tell you that this thing gets it. The Kinetic 1400 battery lasted 10 hours w/ this thing jamming nearly as loud as it could. That is no exaggeration. The gel cell batteries are awesome. By the way, it was a loud cooler!

chas 05-21-2007 8:32 PM

We also use the Kinetic's, we can play ours about 5 to 7 hours and it has a pretty big amp running it.

wake1823 05-22-2007 5:55 AM

aren't those kinetic battereis $300-400/per battery?

flattirenotube 05-22-2007 6:50 AM

Gus, Out of curiosity, how much does that set-up run and are you guys going to be sellin them?

kody_a 05-22-2007 1:58 PM

Thats sweet, would be an awesome party kicker

goose_sound_box_marine 05-22-2007 2:06 PM

It would be about 2400.00 counting the cooler and labor. They are not cheap to build if you use good equipment. Im sure someone on here will say something negative but, We have already had several people ask about getting one built. We can do it alot of different ways. What do you think.
We also have built some river box's that people use to float the river and we used a Kinetic
800 in it and it last about 6 hrs. The key is to keep the power cell size matching to the wattage of the amp.

guido 05-22-2007 2:56 PM

The one that the Neptune Audio guys have is PIMP. We need some pics. The front one is motorized and has a seat/pegs/steering attached and the rear one is the beat machine with the amps, sub and speakers. It's a blast to go cruising around on it. I've talked myself out of buying one on a few occasions. I don't think the wife would think it was as cool as I do.

goose_sound_box_marine 05-22-2007 3:13 PM

We just got it back and we are going to motorize the lid and add an Lcd alarm as well as LED lighting to be controlled from the remote .
I think we may have to get one of the little ride around ones to pull it around.

deltaboy 05-22-2007 3:18 PM

Scroll through and you will see it.

http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/401717.html

timmy 05-22-2007 7:03 PM

the real question is do these coolers hold beverages after the conversion?

If not, why use a cooler at all?

kody_a 05-22-2007 7:08 PM

Their just easier to transport than say if you were to build one out of wood or hardy plank.

Plus it just looks sweet

ponyh8r 05-23-2007 7:59 AM

Evan,

That Neptune audio one is cool, but trust me, it sounds nothing like what this Soundbox cooler sounds like. I think they are just used for two different things. The soundbox cooler will bring a portable size full stereo soundsystem anywhere you go. I can't explain how loud it can get and the bass in it is outstanding.

chas 05-23-2007 10:02 AM

Oh boy, here we go. Ice chest wars....

ponyh8r 05-23-2007 12:44 PM

I am not starting a war, I am just saying that they are different. If you want one that you can ride around on, then go for the Neptune. If you want one that you can pull around and throws a lot of sound, then one like the Soundbox would work better. The soundbox has 2 JL 7.7 components, a JL 10 Marine sub, a pair of JL tower speakers, a Kinetic 1400 batter and a JL amp. It kicks pretty good.

guido 05-23-2007 1:19 PM

but will it hold a 12 pack?

882001 05-23-2007 1:53 PM

hlcd's will smoke both of those coolers for way less than 24hundy

ponyh8r 05-23-2007 2:28 PM

882001, maybe next time they can do some Wetsounds on the cooler!

bocephus 05-23-2007 3:33 PM

I guess maybe he found it here...

goose_sound_box_marine 05-24-2007 8:03 AM

We are not trying to compete with you guys, you guys build some really cool stuff. I would like to have one to ride around myself.
