I'm a regular here on Wakeworld, and thought I throw this out here before we go to the modeling agencies:

I've got a potential opportunity for you: I'll be in Seattle next week for a photo shoot for a new boat model and I need a wakeboarder! It's scheduled for Tuesday, July 13, weather permitting. If not, it'll be moved to Wednesday, then Thursday.

For part of the shoot, I need a photogenic wakeboarder. Ideally this person would be capable of inverts off a decent wake. Age is not particularly important, though under 35 or 40 would be best. Male or female is fine.

The shoot is with a world-class photographer. One of the pics from the shoot may very well end up on the cover of a major boating magazine. (See his tear sheets for proof.)

The wakeboard shots would happen between about 12 and 3 p.m. on Lake Washington. If you're interested, use the e-mail address in my profile or call me at 865.582.2200.

Thanks,

Matt Guilford
Communications Manager
Brunswick Boat Group
uh, it's too rough on lake washington. go to lake samammish...it's much better there. u should ask wakeworld member, otiswunguy...he lives right on the lake and is always looking for a free pull.

supraman 07-09-2004 9:43 AM

Joe, thanks for the advice. I was just there for the last three days, and the water on Lake Washington was quite good! Even butter in the evenings. (Although this may be a rare occurance.) I was based out of Carillon Point in Kirkland and was motoring back and forth between the cut at Husky Stadium.

The photo shoot is going to take place on Washington and in Elliott Bay, so I'll just have to do the best with the hand I get dealt. Again, thanks for the input.

dakid 07-09-2004 10:09 AM

maybe you should postpone the photo shoot...until i'm there on the 6th of august.

i've never really had any luck riding lake washington. but then again, every now and then, i'd hear people say they got smooth water there. good luck! i hope all goes well.

mikep 07-09-2004 10:40 AM

I think they asked for a photogenic wakeboarder Joe!! :-)

Matt, I'll try to get Dave Maddock for you. He has six or seven inverts, some good spins, and isn't tall and lankey like me. :-) Here are some pics of him riding...

dakid 07-09-2004 10:48 AM

damn you porter!!!

nice pics man! looks like the columbia. u been goin' there a lot?

mikep 07-09-2004 10:51 AM

Ya, this was from Lake Entiat last year. We went to Pateros this year, which was amazing. How's the riding down south?

mango 07-09-2004 10:56 AM

SEXY!

dakid 07-09-2004 10:59 AM

riding's cool! been riding canyon lake a lot...it's like a mini-delta.

matt, sorry for hijacking your thread. you might want to contact tim wong @ skifreestyl e@hotmail.com. the guy absolutely rips and goes huge, w/ inverts and spins. i think he has a house now on lake sammamish.

also, send an email to jon fowler @ jonfo@microsoft. com. he too rips w/ inverts and spins, and lives on lake sammamish.

tcluv85 07-09-2004 11:26 AM

Actually Tim Wong is out with an injury (pulled hamstring really bad while wakeskating about a month ago and is out till August or so)...can't ride right now. Jon Fowler is just getting back into it after his ankle surgery.

I was on Lk. Washington last night...it sucked. It all depends on weather. East of Seward Park last night laid out for about 45 minutes, then back to chop.

Try to contact http://www.wakeworld.com/cgi-bin/Discus4/board-profile.cgi?action=view_profile&profile=villag eidiot-users If he doesn't want to do it, he rides with others on Lk. Washington who might be interested.

Matt - What Joe was saying is... you have better chance of good water conditions on Lk. Samm or Lk. Stevens. Lk. Washington is hit and miss, nice nice weather lots of boat chop from big stupid boats, okay weather it is really choppy. I live on the lake washington...I call it the mini ocean.

What is all the "ghosting" or whatever around the rider in those pics.

supraman 07-09-2004 11:55 AM

Joe, Laci, and Porter:

Thanks so much for all the help! I know that you guys would know about Lake Washington a lot better than I would. I was encouraged by the nice water earlier in the week, but I realize you guys have a lot more experience than my measly three days! I truly do appreciate the advice.

In this particular case, the manuverability and schedules of the photographer, boat, helicopter, chase boat, talent agency and even the story theme all necessitate that the shoot take place on Lake Washington. I have no doubt that Sammammish would be better, it's just that I simply can't swing it.

I love this site for the exact kind of feedback I'm getting on this thread. I just wish I could take advantage of it! Porter, let me know if your friend is interested.

By the way, in addition to looking for a rider for the shoot, it would be really cool to hook up with somebody for a set during the week. I'll go wherever the boat is. Again, thanks everybody!

Hey Matt,
I tried to e-mail you, but I don't think it worked. Mike told me about this photo shoot.
I live on Lake WA in Leschi. I would be happy to help you out. I am not too concerned about riding on Lake WA vs. Lake Sammish or some other Lake. I ride on Lake WA almost every day.
Send me an e-mail.
dave@maddo ckinsurance.com
davomaddo 07-09-2004 12:33 PM

Yes,
Lake Washington can get very rough.
I was thinking about hosting a Wakeboard Double Up Rough Water Classic during Sea Fair Sunday.
Here is the format: (it is sort of like ultimate fighting).
Everyone takes turns doing double ups just north of I-90 right after the Blue Angles fly (the roughest time possible). Really, the water is ensanely rough.

We keep taking double ups, one after another, until there is only one person left standing.
Submission Wakeboarding!
Do I have any takers???

tcluv85 07-09-2004 1:13 PM

Matt - Where on Lk. Washington are you planning on doing this? North or South?

captainfreedom 07-09-2004 1:23 PM

Dave is the MAN! Matt, he has a mean fashion air he can pull off for you!

Sounds like a great contest Dave. You wouldn't even have to worry about the double up. You could just do natural double ups driving straight into those huge rollers. I used to take a Sea Doo out there during Seafair to jump waves and it was crazy.

Laci,

I recently had some magazine editors out in the Seattle area. One editor in particular was impressed with the sunrise and sunset times in Seattle. The day out there is much longer than it is here on the east coast.

So, the story that we're shooting photos for will be called "The longest day in boating." It's about all the things you can do in a Seattle day of boating. Dock departure is at 4:30 a.m. with the last shot scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (a LONG day in boating.) We're looking to shoot the wakeboard portion from 12-3 p.m.

Sunrise and sunset (prime boarding times) will be reserved for making the boat and models look good during "magic hour," so no wakeboarding then. As you might be able to tell, the article will feature a lot more than just wakeboarding, with Seattle scenery featuring prominently in the photos, hence my inability to reschedule for Sammammish.

The shoot will start at Carillon Point and end in Elliott Bay. (I know where Carillon Point is, the cut by Husky Stadium, and Olympic Boat Center on the water, but that's about it. So, I can't even really tell you where we'll be.) I do know that we're scheduled to go through the locks between 4 and 5 p.m.

Thanks so much to all the folks that have e-mailed me. I'll be responding shortly! I'm really looking forward to the shoot and a great time in Seattle!

tcluv85 07-09-2004 2:30 PM

Sounds very cool.

Seattle is actually getting recognized for more than it's rain. This has to be a first.

Good Luck and I will wave from the dock or boat if you are south on Lk. Washington at any point.

villageidiot 07-09-2004 2:57 PM

Maddock, I'll kick your butt into submission in your Double-Up Rough water contest. You're double-fashionaire's got nothin... BWOOH HAAH HAH....

villageidiot 07-09-2004 3:05 PM

An FYI... in Washington state, it is actually legal to ride for one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset. Which means that Tuesday, when you're shooting, it will be legal to ride from 3:25 a.m. to 10:05 p.m.!

First time I read it I didn't believe it (always thought it was sunrise and sunset). A friend read it and he interpreted the same thing.

davomaddo 07-09-2004 6:09 PM

Watch out Cal. I might have to pull out the triple fashion air (aka Porn Star) and make you look bad!
mikep 07-10-2004 8:31 AM

Hey Matt. For riding when you are here we could take you out. Brent and I launch in Sammamish, or we go with Dave in the early morning on Lake Washington. I have a pretty busy week from M-W, but Thursday or Friday may work.

supraman 07-10-2004 12:27 PM

Porter,

I'd LOVE to go out with you! I'll have a board with me and I'm good for gas money and your favorite beverage. Thursday is looking ideal for my schedule (early morning, afternoon or evening), so if that ends up working for your schedule and the weather cooperates, let's try to hook up.

I'll send you a PM on Monday when I land or you can call me at 865.385.4500.

supraman 07-19-2004 6:17 AM

Just wanted to update this thread with a HUGE thanks to Cal and Dave Maddock for some incredible riding and great attitudes last Tuesday. The photographer was a little difficult to work with, and the conditions were considerably less than ideal, but these guys NAILED it. With great attitudes, they went out in choppy water, with overcast skies and hit invert after invert, pulling some sick air. I'll definitely be posting some pics when I get them.

I'd also like to send out a special thanks to Porter and Laci for hooking me up with these two great riders, and everyone else who offered input. The day was really crazy and I couldn't have asked for two more laid-back guys willing to just go out and get it done. Again guys, thanks a million!

villageidiot 07-19-2004 10:46 AM

Hey Matt, thanks for the morning on the water. It was a lot of fun! If you're ever up in Seattle again I'd love to get you out behind the Epic. You've seen Lake Washington water so now you know what to expect ;)

Anyways, hope the rest of the day went alright for you. I keep hearing the number 45, 45, 45, 45, 45 45 45 45 45 45 45 over and over again in my head, but can't seem to figure out why...???

tcluv85 07-19-2004 12:01 PM

Cal - did you hear that...45 off stern and 45 off bow, got it? 45, 45, 45, 45, 45....

Your air was awesome, I only dream of flying so high someday. Good job riding in that water!

Matt - you gotta post some of the pics when you get them.
