I use to have a friend that I considered pretty close, but as soon as some of my other friends started gettin X-15's and X-stars my dads I/O was suddenly not good enough and hes nowhere to be found anymore. Saddest part of the whole deal is I introduced him to my other friends with boats and I cant stand his leeching so much that I dont even ride with them when im invited anymore. The best was when i called him up one morning to see if he wanted to ride and he goes..... " I only get up for a mastercraft. " Any of you got some slutty boat whore stories??? If so how do you deal with them???

Harsh man... I've ridden behind my buddy's weighted down, towered, Bayliner for the last four years. This year due to his work, he hasn't been getting out as much, but through him I've met some great crews of guys, one with an XSTAR and one with a SAN210. While I ride with them more now due to my friend's schedule, I always make sure he gets first priority whenever he wants to go riding on the "Bay-Barge". Great friends to me are worth way more than another 18" inches of a wake. <BR> <BR>Maybe this is just me, but I'd just tell him how you feel about it. Thats a really lame thing to do to a buddy, and he should be into it to chill with the people, not there solely for a brand or the most prime wake. <BR> <BR>If he keeps it up, just remind him that boarding is REALLY fun, but gets really LAME if you have NO FRIENDS TO DRIVE FOR YOU. <BR> <BR>my .02

Get over it. Your "leeching" friend is out riding behind a Mastercraft, and you're riding behind an I/O because you can't stand him moving up in his taste of boats. Quite frankly, with the cost of gas these days why should anybody settle for less of a ride than they can get? And if he's leeching on the gas money then you should be happy he's behind another boat. The way I see it, you're inflicting "loserness" on yourself.

I can understand why you're a llitle hurt, but it IS wakeboarding. For a lot of riders, it's not about hanging out with your closest bros, it's about riding. I ride for fun... I like to say im a real friend to people so just because theres a fat wake to be had doesnt mean im gonna be an ass to my buddy with the 85 horse outboard bayliner. But like everything on here its all personal opinion and thats just mine. Seems like everyone has valid points so thanks for the input guys.

John, you are way out of line. You sound like a 17 yr old elitist. Moving up in taste of boats? No, he met people with better boats and can probably throw things easier and for some reason people these days believe you need a huge boat, wake, and punk attitude in order to wakeboard. I've had the same thing, people would rather go behind larger boats, until those break down or aren't available and they don't have anything to ride, then they come around. Jesse go throw down behind your boat, find others and teach them the appreciation of even having a freaking boat, especially in these economic times, and just get some moves that your "friend" doesn't have, real people respect one's riding more than what boat he has.

and not that it totally matters, but you say you have an 87 supra, and are 23. Are your friends the same age with their "own" boats, or are they fortunate to have parents that support them riding? Once they're dropped from the support of their parents (if thats the case), they'll learn to appreciate any boat. I did.

If I edge properly and pop right, there's no reason i shouldn't be able to land and throw most of what I do behind a bigger boat. <BR> <BR>I may have to work harder, rotate faster, but won't all those added extra's make me a better rider overall? It allows me to adapt, to get out behind another boat/wake and hit it then go.

The 87 Supra is a boat 2 of my friends went in on and we keep at my parents cause there on a lake and I have a vehicle to tow it and stuff so i ride behind that when there there otherwise its my dads 90 Forester I/O. The X-15 and X-star are kids with rich parents... LUCKY!!!!

Totally. If you're in your early 20's, you own a boat, and your friends are ditching you for better boats, it's an opportunity waiting to happen. Go find some good looking ladies who wanna learn how to ride, and fill the boat with them.

Im a fireman and work 24hr shifts. Turned out a had to work the fourth of july so i decided to let a good friend of mine who has ridden with me a few times take my boat to the lake close to where we live and go have some fun and watch the fireworks while im working to make the boat payment and pay the insurance. well when he got it in the water it was low on gas so he put 50 dollars in it and burned every bit of it out in the course of the day. well when i get up there the next day he wants his fifty dollars! needless to say hes not invited anymore

What do you call it when you take somebody out riding quite a few times, your boat is way nicer than theirs or they don't even have one. Then when they get a new sweet ride, they never ask you out on it, not even once?

It really was a learning experience but those kind of people are in every activity. If you have something people want to use, they'll come out of the woodwork until something better is found. <BR>Good story but a little off topic: I asked a girl to bring gas money earlier this year. What is so funny is that it isn't the boat that makes the rider. My wife went on a missions trip to Haiti with a bunch of people she had never met before. Obviously she comes back with a few new friends who she would love to have come out to the lake with us. Then there are a couple of other people. One person sent her a one line email saying "hey next time you go to the lake I want to go." No how are you doing, no what have you been up to, just a take me to the lake email. The other one was even worse. She told a friend to tell us that next time we go to the lake she wants to go. She didn't even have the decency to call us or email us. Jeez could it make me feel like I am being used anymore just cuz we have a boat. Needless to say, those people have not been invited to the lake.

There have been plenty of times i've ridden with different crews other than my main one, but normally, after riding with them for an afternoon, i realize it's not as fun as riding with the guys i've known forever, and the guys i can joke around with all day. <BR> <BR>Our crew rides behind my friends 12+ year old chapparal deck boat, and we know it's not fantastic, but we have a blast behind it. The friend who has it is much cooler than anyone else i've ridden with who has a wakeboat, but that could be because we all know each other so well. <BR> <BR>We also have fun when we go out, and hang out between sets. It's not strictly wakeboarding.

Wedding Crashers is the movie I saw it in. And they were actually accurate with the results cause the guy they did it to was puking his guts out all night. However, i didn't realize that it was that dangerous either and that the results could be deadly.

What's with all the haters? Now I know I'm an optimist, but isn't the wakeboard scene relatively small and we all need to give props to one another and help everyone out. This is for everyone else on here. Not Jesse and our friend and Simon. Simon and I are the ones with the 87 Supra, and I'm personally always excited to get anyone on our boat. Even better if they pitch in with launching it, cleaning up and paying for gas. If there are only two of us on the boat cool, ten of us on the boat, cool too. <BR> <BR>Maybe I'm just one of the rare ones.

I think it depends on what people are looking for. <BR> <BR>We have a Centurion that puts out a mediocre wake that works for most that ride behind our boat. <BR> <BR>I'm fortunate enough to ride behind the Bonecrusher occasionally. Truth is that I am nowhere near qualified to ride behind that wake (lol) but I go out because I enjoy being around those guys and I have a nice time. That said, the wake on that boat is second to none by far.

I had an 05 SAN210, had lots of friends. <BR> <BR>Sold my boat, no friends, no phone calls, nothing. <BR> <BR>Bought an 07 SAN210, suprisingly, friends came back. <BR> <BR>Now friends are categorize into who chips in, who helps clean, hussle around the boat, and reliability. <BR> <BR>I had one that is permanently uninvited because he acts like he owns MY boat and does whatever he please. If it's not your boat always ask. <BR> <BR>Other than that, Wake Worlders are pretty cool.

I think it can sometimes come down to personal tastes. i don't really hang out with or randomly call the people that ride with me or i go ride with just cause I think wakeboarding may one of the very few things we actually have in common. I still think they are great people. <BR> <BR>I don't fault them at all and hope they would not fault me.

I'm with John. I have a lot of "friends" like this. Maybe it's just getting older. I don't see them unless we ride, but when we ride we get along great. To me, that's all that matters. We roll in different circles outside of riding, I think that's what's great about wakeboarding. People who would otherwise probably not ever meet, getting together and doing something they both love.

I agree. I've ridden with a lot of people all different ages, and a lot of the friendships were founded on the basis of wakeboarding. One of the guys I ride with has two kids (I think 1 and 5yrs. old) and hes about 12 years old than I am. We also live about 45 minutes apart. I consider him a good friend, but obviously were at different stages in life and have different priorities and obligations. But when were out on the water, were all there to ride and have a good time and we all get along great. I've hung out with 15 year old kids on the boat and there again had a good time, but I'm not going to the skating rink w/them on Friday night.

i agree that you shouldn't not go on your other friends boat b/c of the "boat whore", you are only hurting yourself. And, if he's there, just ignore him. no big deal, go and have a good time with your other friends, and get some new ones for your boat. its a boat, on the lake, i am sure there are people who will want to go with you

alright, I've had my fair share of boat whoring days. <BR> <BR>I've ridden with a wide variety of people with a wide variety of boats. There are a handful of boat owners that I wouldn't go out with again because the experience wasn't worth the obligatory gas money. I've ridden with people who were <font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font> but had sick wakes. I've ridden with rad dudes that had lame wakes. It goes both ways. I was a boat WHORE, if I had to choose between nice guy crap wake, lame dude mackin' wake, I'm not choosing nice guy CRAP wake. <BR> <BR>It sucks but sometimes that's just the way it is... <BR> <BR>In the two situations above both I would treat exactly the same. Driving, trailering, docking, rope-handling, cleaning, flagging, etc.

My crew is fairly loyal but probably because they don't know anyone else to ride on there boat. Unfortunately I only have a I/O it is all I could justify buying since I bought a lot of used boats that just became headaches so I wanted a new boat. The wake isn't the greatest but I'm looking to improve it with some sac's and I did 2k in upgrades in tower etc. I will improve the wake and prop a nd hope all is well but as for them I would love to ride if they have a friend who has a wakeboat but I have my boat and I don't think I will give it up for a wakeboat. I would need a bigger truck and that is not feasable even if I could get a beater truck and go that way forget it I need to save for a house and retirement. So my rule is hey you have a boat to ride behind and If you want to improve it go ahead but my regular crew always has priority. Plus I like ridin behind something that give me a challenge.

Such a complicated sport/hobby.. something u can't do yourself obviously. So u need a strong "support group" or crew. i'm lucky to have some good folks i can rely on and trust and are into wakeboarding as much as i am. it's all about good company and good times on the water for us. cheers

hey all, i would just like to start by thanking the ben axell that has wrote on this wall because he does come out and ride with me all the time and has helped me out alot. however he'd go ride with kelly on the bayliner in a second however kelly is often found with me but we do switch off. and as he put it it's not about what you do behind the boat its about who you do it with and that you have fun doing what you do. it's cool to drop a scare-crow but just remember the first time you cleared the wake...both are about the same or should be to the rider its just another accomplishment. yes i'm ben's friend who at the age of 24 is fortinute to say i own an x-star not my parents but i own an x-star or i should say my bank does for now...lol...and trust me my x-star boots a big wake with an extra 2000+ lbs of fly high fat sacs. but to me i wanted a boat that i couldn't ever complain about and i got it now after having an I/O this is a dream come true...but thrusday morning i'll be out behind a bayliner just having fun cause i wake is a wake. so dude F*ck your friends if they wanna ditch you for a boat. ride when you get to ride because its riding if i could afford to i'd due it all 7 days instead i settle for about 3 to 4 days. <BR> <BR>Kudo's to shiply last night for throwing 2 s-bends last night ate it bad on one of them and the other landed with out the handle still huge. and thanks to all who ride with me and put your few bucks toward the gas tank

I actually really enjoy taking sets behind my girl's dad's 19' runabout. I can work on a lot of fundamentals and have a good time hopping around without worrying as much about burning up precious gas. Not to mention I can do a good bit of stuff behind it with a 4 inch wake and tied off at the ring on the back. If you think a 'big superman' gets a big reaction when passing by people who aren't wakeboarders or in a wakeboat - check out the reaction of the folks on a loaded x-star when someone comes by and does one behind a weightless,towerless runabout.
