I must say that I'm super impressed with this new option. Check out all the details in their press release at http://wakeworld.com/getarticle.asp?articleid=1862. I can't wait to try one out.

Does anybody have one yet? If so, what do you think? I'm wondering if they added music choice to the presets. I love the fact that I can press one button to set up my ballast, Wedge and speed on my '08, but if they add a playlist as well, that would be really cool.

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but the Auto Wedge sounds like another super smart feature to save gas and get the boat up on plane quicker. Again, if anybody has used this yet, chime in!

cavlxenvy 09-10-2008 3:18 PM

Looks like I will have to sell my boat and get an 09 soon.

burbanized 09-10-2008 3:22 PM

MALIBU Above expectations!

Taking it further in the GAME

sacmule 09-10-2008 3:56 PM

Wow, that is an awesome innovation. However, I do not want to see this replace the standard gauges. I need to learn more...here I come Malibu.

liquidmx 09-10-2008 4:44 PM

Its cool for sure, and definitely attracts buyer's "in the high end wakeboat market".

As a wakeboard purist I prefer the KISS model though.

westsidarider 09-10-2008 5:40 PM

i think the maliview is super cool and deffiantely a huge advance in boat technology....

however, i am very hesitant to have complete faith that this cumputer system will not fail on you, especially the way that my friends and i use boats. stereos constantly pounding, driving dubs all the time and just plain riding and boating hard. with just about everything in the boat being controlled by that computer system i would be scared for it to go out, loosing complete control of the boat. we will see as time passes though.

ord27 09-10-2008 5:57 PM

"As a wakeboard purist I prefer the KISS model though."
I knew Gene Simmons was into snow board stuff, but when did he get into wake board gear?

jujube 09-10-2008 6:32 PM

$$$$$$$...

tcaz 09-10-2008 7:09 PM

pretty sick, although i think i'd rather have some real gauges than everything be all teched out.

malibuboats4 09-10-2008 7:29 PM

i wonder how it looks in the sun and how long it will hold up....

dabell 09-10-2008 7:30 PM

I like the idea and innovation. However, I agree with the others that keeping it simple is best.

I can see someone driving and playing around with the screen and run the boat into something because they were not paying attention.

ghostrider_2 09-10-2008 8:59 PM

KISS = KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID...

walt 09-10-2008 9:08 PM

Cool technology but I have to wonder if the video capability is a liability ? Having a video in front of the driver could buy them a law suit when some tool wrecks his boat.

walt 09-10-2008 9:10 PM

My bad. I didn't see David b post.

wake_upppp 09-10-2008 9:13 PM

Doesen't even have to be a tool. Even experienced drivers get in trouble when distracted. It's the main ingrediant in most accidents.

ord27 09-10-2008 9:19 PM

Kenny
if that was directed to my comment
I know what KISS stands for
that's just my off brand of humor

grant_west 09-10-2008 9:23 PM

I don't like how when you first start up the boat the Maliview screen makes you press 1 for english.

westsiderippa 09-10-2008 9:30 PM

G, are you serious? that is F-ing B.S. if your for real. F that. you better be F-in with me!!!!!!!

ord27 09-10-2008 9:50 PM

ghostrider_2 09-11-2008 6:04 AM

sorry , just allot of people don't know it..

dabell 09-11-2008 6:36 AM

OMG!!!! That was funny G... Did it ask for your PIN number afterwards?

No prob WCW... It's all good.

deltawake 09-11-2008 9:29 AM

I don't like the LCD switches in the "08 Malibu. These are still the same in the '09. The '07 was far better with the regular old toggle switches. Another vote for KISS!

onthewatermo 09-11-2008 9:52 AM

I heard the 2010 towers are equipped with a camera that feeds into MaliView which is wild. Not sure if it is for the purpose of keep an eye on the rider (reinvent the rearview mirror), save footage/pics, or both.

grant_west 09-11-2008 9:54 AM

Hey Jason here is somthing else to add to your great idea. A Gallons per hr calculator. So it calculates how much fuel you used per secession. LOL Kind of like a rider up Taxi cab meter.

Im telling you If they could get rid of the Press 1 for English thing this system would be the Bomb.
Via Con Dieas

xsmini 09-11-2008 11:05 AM

It works amazingly well. Sun Bleeding into it, polarized glasses, nothing keeps you from reading it. In terms of electronics being on the boat, I wouldn't worry so much, if everything is on a board, nothing should get jolted loose.

Auto Wedge basically goes all the way down when you start, until you reach 80% of your desired speed, then automatically dials in to your preset. It is awesome, def. quicker out of the hole, sharper turns, less bowrise, less gas to get up on plane.

My dealer said Maliview was about 1000 msrp, it comes with depth. Depth as a standalone option is like 350. So for $650, its a no brainer to me

jpg 09-11-2008 11:15 AM

looks pretty cool but the more stuff you got on your boat especially
electronics the more stuff can go wrong with it

liquidmx 09-11-2008 11:57 AM

With the way gas prices are going any boat company who is focusing on efficiency will be a contender in my book. The wedge dropping after on plane would be a sick addition...as long as you can override it manually. Example: Dog leg dubs: keep it down for the roller setup, pull it up for the turn around, and drop it back down on the approach. Add to that gallons per hour, set times (like a trip odometer), etc. would be cool.

Larzon, good to hear its readable. I wear non-polarized glasses specifically because I cannot read PP on my boat with polarized.

I would have faith in the longevity if they gave this setup to Randall and it withstood a full season of his abuse. Until then, I am skeptical.

wakeboardlasvegas 09-11-2008 12:12 PM

ok.. so lets say your boat gets broken into, and someone steals it. YOU ARE F'd!!!!

kyback 09-11-2008 12:35 PM

We love it!

bcrider 09-11-2008 12:53 PM

^^^ Jonn wakeLV

What if someone steals the motor out of your boat.
Steals your steering wheel.
Steals your prop
Steals the boat
Steals all the copper wire.

YOU ARE F'D!!

I think there are better things in your boat for people to steal.

ie

Stereo
boards/ropes
...all the other gear.

Seriously?

wakeboardlasvegas 09-11-2008 12:55 PM

People generally dont steal motors outta boats... people DO steal anything and everything electronic.

xsmini 09-11-2008 2:45 PM

What a Pain in the A$$ that would be, that screen is prety in there

stephan 09-11-2008 3:42 PM

I'm really curious to try it out. I like the addition of intuitively designed interfaces, especially ones with updates and evolving software. We are in the iPod generation and gadgets that accentuate the user experience are the hot ticket. Clearly it's not necessary, but damn it sure looks cool to have as an option.

It's funny the same people that say it's another thing to go wrong on a boat are probably sporting some pretty tech stereo systems. To be able to hit a button and have the Wedge and ballast dialed to each riders preferred setting is cool, no two ways about it. For the folks that want traditional gauges, take a look at the picture again. Just like Perfect Pass, this type of thing (hopefully along with big integrated & hidden ballasts) will become standard. Props to Malibu for pushing new tech.

billy2603 09-12-2008 8:18 AM

Granted, electronics do have issues when they aren't properly tested, but so far this summer I have had zero electronic issues and about 4 or 5 "KISS" type parts break or need replacement - throttle cable, steering cable, ballast pump, analog speedo (electronic PP one working fine), etc. Knock on wood, but no electronic parts yet. Being out in the elements and getting banged around is bad for all parts. I don't think electronic ones are any worse off, just harder to fix yourself.

Maliview (and the rest of the new VLX) has made me plan for a new boat purchase next year instead of the year after. I can't wait to hit one button and have everything set up and watch video of my last run while I wait.

anodyne 09-12-2008 3:30 PM

A great tool is only as good as how usable it is, and this looks really cumbersome to me.
We're talking a boat... What'd the point to an LCD readout displaying every possible variable (+10 buttons)?

I count roughly 30 buttons in the cockpit. Does it make for a better boating experience to have all these special features??
I have just as much fun in an X-star as I did in my first 16-foot Bayliner with 80-horse outboard (so do most of us out there). Nothing groundbreaking in how much fun or how usable the riding & driving experiences are.

Just a toy.

knarbar 09-12-2008 3:37 PM

I definetly think it looks cool but like everyone else said, fuctionality is everything. How well will it work. Dont take this wrong either (Im sure someone will) but it looks like a sooped up version of MC's Vdig. Innovation I think not more like taking an already existing idea and making it better with more features. Yes I love MC's but Malibu is also a great boat with a great wake.

dudeman 09-12-2008 4:20 PM

Anyone old enough to remember the days when Corvette went from analog to digital? Not cool. They realized that and switched back. Do you see a Ferrari with a digital dash? Somethings should just be left alone.
