The installation of my Custom SeaDek Swim Platform Pad...

7 Attachment(s)
After laying out my custom design I anxiously waited for about a month to have it made, and when it showed up I couldn't wait to get the thing installed! I went out last night and got the job done, and I have the blisters to prove it!

Removing the old pad was easier than I thought, but getting all the leftover adhesive was a bit of a pain. I used mineral spirits and elbow grease, took about 45 minutes.

I did all this with the boat in the water, which was a little tricky, but not too bad.

On with the pics!

(Sorry for the crappy iPhone quality, I forgot my normal camera at home.)

I had the same problem with getting the adhesive off. All I had with me at the time was gasoline, so it was an hour of work, many lost brain cells and a huge headache! Yesterday, someone told me I should have used lighter fluid. Who knew? However, the result was worth it. I get compliments on it wherever I go. You did a fantastic job with yours!

Nice!

Both of my index fingers have huge blisters, which makes me look rediculous trying to type, haha.

Those both look great!

Mad props for completing that job in the water!!

Those both look great. The old adhesive is definitely a pain to get off. I did mine right before memorial day weekend and then someone stole my swim platform at the marina.

Can't beat SeaDek. I love mine.

Dealer had one in stock. I purchased only to find it was a good two inches short (width). The MC one above looks short also? I had so much glue and left over rubber on the deck that I am returning for a new MC version.

Try using Goo-Gone next time to remove the adhesive. Then wipe with rubbing alcohol to get clean.

Much less "elbow work".

ajholt7 06-24-2010 12:02 AM

I used acetone and didn't have to work too hard to get it off.

ryan387 06-24-2010 8:40 AM

I also used acetone. Probably took 2 hours but my boat is 7 years old. A wall paper stripper was the tool that made it wo
rk for me. Now I'm waiting for my sea deck to come. In the meantime I was thinking of throwing down a shower pad with suction cups LOL

Chemist by trade, so I am pretty up on required solvents. This is the "ugly" side. 6 hours to get to here. Pad had been replaced once before by dealer. I think they went nuts on the glue and never completely removed the first one.

dudeman 06-24-2010 10:39 AM

Ian, what did that cost you? I just looked on their site and I didn't see that design so I'm assuming it a custom. I'd love to have something like that with Supra.

ssmith 06-24-2010 1:40 PM

Here's mine. I got it for $189...

Ian that is sweet!! I need to replace mine too as the black is starting to track in my boat. Any chance i could get that design but in red?

ryan387 06-24-2010 7:43 PM

How did you get it for 189? Group buy? I just bought mine with the same colors above for my supra. Looks great

ssmith 06-24-2010 8:43 PM

Jim at Viper Customs in Maryville, TN can get you one at that price...anytime.

ajholt7 06-25-2010 1:08 AM

All of you guys that want one should do a group buy. I started one a few months ago on Tigeowners.com but I was not allowed to post it on here. I am sure you can find a way to contact each other. Seadek was easy to work with on it. All you have to do is get the required number of names and emails. They take it from there. Contact Chuck Yates. info@SeaDek.com

ian_ashton 06-26-2010 6:34 AM

Randy - Mine was around $375, it is a custom cut pad.

I think just about anything is possible if you are willing to pay for it, and willing to wait for it, lol - I know that the color I chose is not UV resistant or whatever, so the pad has no warranty, but I figure I'll probably end up replacing it in a few years anyway. They were/are? super slammed with making OEM stuff right now, but you can contact at the above email address to see what they can do for ya.

We re-did ours in the spring. When my brother was cutting out the different sides, he accidentally cut out two of the left sides, so we had to get a little creative. I think it turned out pretty well. "CCR" stands for "Chicken Creek Riders". Chicken Creek is the name of the area our cabin and dock are located in.

ian_ashton 07-01-2010 8:47 AM

You cut that yourself? That had to be quite a task! Very cool, nice work!

wakecumberland 07-01-2010 12:05 PM

Nice work Brett!

younguns44 03-22-2011 8:01 PM

Has anyone had trouble with thier sea dek pads coming up or tearing?

ian_ashton 03-23-2011 6:09 AM

Back from the dead, lol

Mine has been good, no lifting at all.

Those look great.

Here is our custom Sea Dek. They guys are Sea Dek are great and the product is awesome. Out RZ2 had a split top 2 piece. They made us a single top piece with 2 filler pieces under it to create a solid place to lay the one piece.
