Looking for companies who make Cargo Racks/Bimini tops. I know of Z5, Monster Tower, and Mastercraft. I am looking for one for a Nautique 210 with the new FCT3 tower.
Thanks!

nauti4life 02-03-2010 2:51 PM

Do you have a bimini on it now?

andrew_moreton 02-03-2010 3:18 PM

Z5 makes the rack that both Nautique and Mastercraft use.

eljefepequeno 02-03-2010 5:45 PM

Well, the Sport Cargo rack I saw for the Mastercraft xstar was created by Mastercraft by Design. I guess it could have been originally made by Z5, even though it looks completely different.

Moe, nope, I don't have anything for it now.

Anybody else making cargo sport racks?

andrew_moreton 02-03-2010 6:28 PM

Are you talking about this tower? It's made by Z5. I looked around the new Mastercraft By Design website and didn't see a cargo rack, but I believe that if you buy a cargo rack from MC, it's a Z5.

andrew_moreton 02-03-2010 6:29 PM

Travis Moye's old boat, by the way.

ixfe 02-03-2010 7:31 PM

Just be prepared to hit your head on it as they sit very low.

Also, you cannot fold them up when you want to enjoy the sun.

Other than that... cool design.

phenom_1819 02-03-2010 7:53 PM

Jefe, I saw the one you are talking about on a MC at the Portland Boat Show. It's similar to a Z-5, but almost looked like it had a valence on the front... similar to a Yakima/Thule vehicle cargo rack. Looked nice.

Ixfe, the Z-5 doesn't necessarily sit low, on Supra's anyway. Mine sits very high, have never hit my head on it... and I can stand up all the way beneath it without my head touching (I'm 5'8"). Many do move their Z-5 cargo bimini's lower to accomodate speakers on the tower. I only have two WS Pro-80s and pushed them out to the corners so it doesn't interfere with my Z-5.

jonyb 02-03-2010 8:41 PM

The Z5 being high or low depends on where it's mounted. Mine was just high enough to stand under when the dealer prepped the boat. When I added the 3-Some I had to lower the rack, but later cut the rear tube (that's just in the way) and raised the rack up, so now it's just above the speakers so there's plenty of headroom. Im about 5/10".

jonyb 02-03-2010 8:42 PM

Meant to add: The Z5 is great. I keep a full-size surfboard on it all the time, and you could keep a tube or other boards up there. It's easy to fold down to access everything, but the drawback is that it's so big that you have to tow the boat with it on. It's too big for the bed of a truck and if it wasn't, then I'd be affraid that wind would get under it and blow it out.

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 5:29 AM

Talking about this one. It doesn't look at all like the one on Moyes boat. Is this the one you saw Cal?

OK, let me put it this way, is there anyone else other than Z5 that make sport cargo racks?
Thanks

wakebdr2002 02-04-2010 5:54 AM

I don't know of anyone else that makes the racks. I love my Z5 and I can say that Z5 sportsracks has some of the best customer service in the business.

phenom_1819 02-04-2010 6:51 AM

That's the one I saw... Pretty cool.

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 7:27 AM

I am glad to see that Z5 has such a following and good reputation. And apparently, quite the monopoly in the industry. Unfortunately for me, at 3600 dollars, they have priced themselves out of the market. That Mastercraft rack is priced at around 1800 dollars and the monster tower rack is 600.

I am looking for others that have a good product with a more affordable price point.

nauti4life 02-04-2010 9:12 AM

We had a local company make this bimini for us. It goes up and down in a min. You can add a cargo rack for a small cost. It looks and works great. Let me know if you need any more info.

phenom_1819 02-04-2010 9:21 AM

Jefe, $3600 for a Z-5?? I ordered mine with the boat and it was $1699, if I remember right... ordered afterwards my dealer told me it would have cost around $2,000.

And yes, I love my Z-5!

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 10:38 AM

Moe, yes please, that looks like what I am looking for!!!!
Cal- Yeah, I know, I bought a new 2009 from a dealer, not a order, and it didn't come with a Z5 and all the dealers I have tried (3) have qouted between 3k by the dealer I bought my boat and 3600 from the others. When did you buy it
? I think the price has doubled since then.

chattwake 02-04-2010 11:00 AM

You can stand on a z5 rack...

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 11:30 AM

Tom- Awesome boat by the way, I am glad you can stand on it, but you can also stand on a 2x4. Still doesn't explain why they would double the price from when Cal bought a boat, be 4x the amount of a TowerBimini, or twice the amount of the Mastercraft cargo rack that looks to have alot more Stainless.

Anyway, they can charge whatever they want, I just can't justify the cost.

ldr 02-04-2010 11:32 AM

Jefe my parents have the mastercraft one that you posted and it is also made by Z5 and i also think it is the nicest one they make with the sweet picklefork design and all the billet.

(Message edited by ldr on February 04, 2010)

nauti4life 02-04-2010 11:35 AM

Jefe-
I have contacted the company. They will chime in soon. Stay tune.

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 11:42 AM

Thanks Moe, I appreciate it.

chattwake 02-04-2010 11:59 AM

There is a z5 out for the Axis A22 by the way.

chattwake 02-04-2010 12:02 PM

I'm not sure how the other racks stack up. I do know that I've towed with my z5 up at 75 mph for over five hours with absolutely no problems. I know that when I got my z5, I didn't think it would fit with my ws 485's on my 230 fct3 tower. I called z5 and they gave me some advice as to how to make it fit and told me that if I needed custom struts to get some extra room that they would make them and send them to me at no charge. It may be an expensive piece of equip, but the guys at z5 were helpful, and it's a well built piece.

Again, I have no experience with other racks. Just my .02

We're the company, Custom Covers, that manufactured the top for nauti4life. Check out these two websites. One is our company site where you can get more detail on our bimini, and we charge $925 for it.
http://www.sewlong.com/fct.html
The other site is a you tube video of how the top works.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwMI_TVhPSQ
Call 801-262-4017 with any questions.

eljefepequeno 02-04-2010 12:33 PM

David- Thanks for the info, the only thing that I am concerned about is how you get the boards on and off, and if you can store a -dare I say here, tube, other than that, it looks really nice. Good job.

nauti4life 02-04-2010 12:50 PM

Jefe- They have a tube strap for it as well. Give them a call. Great people to work with.

nauti4life 02-04-2010 12:50 PM

Anybody else making a cargo rack/Bimini? I want to make sure I check out all options.
Thanks

eljefepequeno 02-08-2010 6:51 AM

The Z-% cargo racks look great! Too bad they do not make one for my boat. However, Sewlong.Com does and I have seen them in person and they make a great quality rack too. I think one fully loaded is about $1200.00.

colombiansurfer 02-08-2010 10:44 AM

How about good quality bimini's manufacturers that would be interested in doing custom work, I have a few ideas that might make a good universal bimini/cargo rack. I am also looking for information of those that have done a good job at making a bimini top.

(Message edited by eljefepequeno on February 17, 2010)

eljefepequeno 02-17-2010 2:20 PM

Obviously not the most fancy of bimini tops but it works well for me and the budget that I was willing to spend. It doesn't fold up but I only use it at our summer house where it gets way hotter then where I live and usually ride. Made from exhaust pipe. I was thinking about adding another support or bit of a cage to put bags or other stuff on top. I've strapped a tube to the top.

I suppose if you have the budget to buy a high end boat you should be able to afford the high end rack to go with it.

I've had the Z5 on my boat since I got it in 08 and it's great. I had one on my old boat just like the Nautique pictured and it's not even close to being in the same league. It was nice, but can't compare to the Z5, and yes I know who makes the one on the Nautique.
