Ballast laws - Issues?

Alright guys we were out on Sunday and and it was pretty windy so we decided to surf all day. It just so happens that Randall Harris is out on the lake doing a clinic with his AXIS along with a few other Malibus from the dealer and they are all surfing as well. I see DNR go to his boat first, then they come my way. "I noticed you guys were wakeboarding, how much ballast do you have full?" I tell him I have 2 500lb bags full and he proceeds to ask me the weight limit on the boat-- 1660lbs or 12 ppl. There were about 5-6 of us on the boat. He then says have a good day and drives off. What I cant figure out is how he still considered us within regulation?? Luckily he had no idea what how much was really in the boat:)

Meant to ask! Who else has been hassled? Anyone had any tickets?

We were in my buddy's X-Star two memorial days ago, and we got stopped by the DNR. Had 10 in the boat and I believe it was 3,500 or so worth of water in the boat and that puppy was riding LOW. Just did a lifejacket check.

Haha very nice. I dont get it, the rubrail was all the way under in the back and the Bubbled Mastercraft stickers were in the water, and he took my word for it! I had a 750 in the rear locker, a 650 on the floor on one side and a 1200lb bow filler in the back corner on the seats about a 3rd full...and about 200lbs of lead back there... I guess its good he didnt pull us over when we were riding...but the boat looks better fully weighted to ride than it does to surf to the average passerby

Indiana or Ariz?

Nevermind. I guess Morse did a great job at advertising that.....

crowem87 07-20-2010 7:49 AM

Sarcasm? I did not hear about it till the day before?

Yes, sarcasm. Glad you didn't get in trouble

It seems that they would have to take you to some sort of scale to officially give you a ticket. My point is yes you may have 500 lb. sacs (just an example), but my guess is there is never exactly 500 lbs. of water in the sac.

Very true! It does suck this is the first time I have been questioned in the ten years I have been riding....hope its not a beginning of something

Maybe he just wanted to know how to weight his ride. He saw you guys and thought the wake looked good.?!?
