Not trying to threadjack but my buddy Mark does some pretty cool sharpie art. <a href="http://markrivardskateboardart.com/home" target="_blank">http://markrivardskateboardart.com/home</a> <BR> <BR>But no, it would be hard to make a sharpie stay on a boat long term. Prolly easier to convert it to a digital file and wrap the boat. Clear coat would be an option but I havent really seen any good looking old clear coat joms on boats.

Get a shop to make a wrap out of the design. I assume the creative aspect of it is what you're trying to capture. So that's really the only way to do it.

A few years ago we rode an exhibition between heats at the hydro races in TriCities. We were all comped for the time, gas, camping, pit passes, etc. We had a number of the boat drivers &amp; owners signing the top of our SkySki with a Sharpie.... Bernie Little, Dave Villwock, Chip Hanauer, Nate Brown, etc. Afterwards I clearcoated the top of the ski &amp; kept on riding it. Over the course of maybe a year the Sharpie faded despite the clearcoat. <BR>Was worth a shot but didn't pan out. I think it's just too harsh an environment (sun &amp; water).

Do not put a sharpie on a boat!! It will bleed into the gelcoat and never come out unless wet sanded. I know from an unfortunate experience.

So consensus is... no. A wrap of the image is the better way to do it. Just toying with ideas of what to do to replace the flames on the back corners of my Supra -- which are subtle... but are still flames. Thanks guys! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by phenom_1819 on January 08, 2010)

The Supra graphic above is the most tolerable of the flame/tribal graphics out there IMO.

Nacho, exactly my thoughts, and put the Supra logo decals over the top of the graphic... To keep the stock look but make it one of a kind.

"G", I'm pretty sure that Lambo actually is sharpie. I read an article about how the guy wanted the sharpie to wear and patina to show character. Hopefully they wrapped it white before it was sharpied!

Anybody know the actual cost of having a wrap printed? I would be looking to print a total of about 32 square feet -- two pieces, each about 2' x 8'. We would be in the $9/Sq.Ft. range for premium 3M film. Price depending on design work of course...

Matt, does that $9 per square foot price include printing? <BR> <BR>Darin, absolutely not worth it -- It was the worst $350 or so I've ever spent...partly because I think it's a cheaply made product that is way overpriced... but also because of my experience with buywake. I'll spare you the details... but buywake doesn't get my business anymore. I've ranted on here before, so if you really want to know... it will probably show up in a search. <BR> <BR>Out of the box, my Party Island had a hole in it in one of the seams (which I fixed and seems to still hold air, but it's a seam so it's only a matter of time before the repair fails). Mine is the non-towable version without the nylon cover. Without the nylon cover it is too soft and flexible (see the pic above) to be useful as it is advertised. <BR> <BR>If you want something similar, Costco gets in a generic version that is very similar every year and it sells for about $75... and has a really neat mesh area where you can sit and hang out in.
