Which amp?!?! Rev 8's
 

Hey guys, I have been a lurker for quite a while and have never needed to post anything that I couldn't find out by just searching... Well I have been searching, reading, searching for over a week now, and I figured I'd finally just ask for some help.

I just got a new pair of Rev 8's thanks to the great fella's at Wet Sounds (Tim and Robert). I had a pair of Pro80's that were powered by a Cadence TXA-3004 bridged for 300x2 @4ohms, but after about 4years it has died on me...

I need something to power the Rev's but I really don't want to spend over $200 on another amp.

I currently have the 5 channel Fusion marine amp which are powering 4 polk in boats and an Exile 12. I wouldn't mind getting another Fusion, Cadence, or really anything that is decently cheap and can still throw 300+ RMS at these guys.

I have looked at the Cadence D100.4 or fxa-4100.
I also like the Fusion CA-DA41400 which says it can do 440x2 @4ohms.
Last but not least, the Exile SM400.4 400x2 @4ohms. (leaning towards this one atm)

I know this topic has been brought up several times, but I would really appreciate some opinions before I pull the trigger.

You need to go by the amp's RMS output and not the unrealistic peak output. I would also suggest a Class-D or G/H as opposed to the less efficient Class-a/b. The consume less battery Ah then an A/B amp producing the same watts rms and are typically smaller. I can tell you with out a doubt, that one amp in your list does not even come close to producing that stated power. Not familiar with the specs on the first two.

One pair of 8-inch HLCDs can be enough. But to reach their full potential you need the right power.
A common amplifier packaged with the Rev8s (one pair) is the JL Audio XD400/4 bridged. As independently tested it will deliver 2 X 200 watts RMS even with a 12.6 volt supply....which is far less than the 14.4 volt supply at which amplifiers are typically rated. The XD400/4 is actually 2 X 280 watts with a 14.4 volt supply. So it has the power even with a lower supply voltage, is a highly efficient fullrange Class D, and is exceptionally clean. Now, you can get all the same attributes in the Wetsounds line-up with a bridged Wetsounds HT-4. There's no need to look outside the of Wetsounds.
In reality, a couple of the other amplifiers mentioned are not even in the same ballpark, not to mention inefficient Class AB.

I am aware that I will need at least 300 watts RMS for each speaker and I would definitely prefer a class D amp to help out with power consumption.

That Precision Power P900.4 looks nice on paper and the price is right.... I like the Exile one but it is class a/b...
I also really like the Fusion CA-DA41400. It's a class D and puts out 440x2 RMS. It looks just like my 5 channel Fusion marine amp, and I'm really happy with it.

My main concern other then making these bad boys scream is cost. I really can't afford to throw any more money at the boat this season, and by that I mean my wife wont let me :o

I know you get what you pay for, but I just can't afford the Wetsounds amps. Could I get away with a decent class D amp that is rated over 400w RMS and just except the fact that i'll probably only see about 80% or so of the RMS rating?? I just need to get through about 2 seasons and then I plan on upgrading the boat...

I am running a HT-4 on mine and they sound great. Almost too much, if their is such a thing!!

I got the PPI 900.4 on a pair of Rev 10s it sounds real good.

Not to hijack but what would be a good amp for 4 rev8s?

Out of the Wet Sounds stable, the Syn-2 is a solid choice. The SD-2 is a strong option and a pair of HT-4 is worth a look as well.

Pair of HT-4's would do great. I have one set off a Ht-4 and at 300 each they really scream!! I kicked around alot of options and am very happy with my choice.

I am currently running the syn2 and they sound great but sometimes wonder if I'm giving them adequate power. Do you think wetsounds is a bit conservative on numbers and there's more power then actually stated?

I have the PPI 900.4 on my rev 10s and love it. Cheap small and powerful. It's takin many 6 hour blastings partying.

Precision power p900.4 as stated above is an awesome amp. I run the p900.4 to my pro 80s a p600.2 to my mb8s and the p900.5 to the interior and sub. My system is loud and clear. The amps are class d, very light, use little power

I have a Cadence ZRS9004 that is in great condition I will sell you. Let me know if you are interested. Will get you 250 to each speaker. I actually bought it from Wet Sounds a few years ago and it sounded awesome on my Pro80's. I have since upgraded my entire system and it is just sitting in the house. Was thinking of putting it in my truck but will give it up.

What about the Alpine PDX 4.150. I have two of these and was hoping to run a pair of REV 8's on each amp. Will the Alpine PDX 4.150 give enough power for REV 8's?

It shows that the PDX 4.150 bridged into two channels will give you 300 watts to each speaker. That power would be great for them.

The Syn-2 for 2 pair is spot on RMS power, but yes, they will handle more. If you seek a seas-of-the-pants difference, you are going to have to significantly pump the RMS to each. A single SD-2 or a pair of GT-4's.

Im running 2 of these on 4 rev 8's and it is clean. sounds great

DQ- Thanks for the offer but I think I want to throw more then 250 RMS at them.

I'm really liking the feedback I'm getting on the p900.4. I think that might be the winner as of now.

I am running the Polk version of the PPI 900.4 (the Polk D4000.4). Great amp, go for it. You aren't going to find a better bang for buck amp than that PPI, period.
