Alpine Type R vs Type S

I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my 2004 Avalance, and am wondering if any of you audio experts out there have any experience with these speakers? For the front doors I will be doing the 6.75" components, and just 6.75" speakers in the rear doors.

I'm guessing that the power supply will be a key factor in this, as the Type S speakers are 80w RMS and the Type R is 110w RMS. For the Type S speakers I think I would go with the Alpine MRPF300 amp, which is 4x50 RMS.

I if used the same amp for the Type Rs would it be pointless, and I'd just be better off with the Type Ss???

You'll get more output and better performance from the more closely matched speaker and amplifier than you will underpowering better speakers.

Type s sound amazing with low wattage around 50-75 wards that a cd player could push. I have 4 in my boat ran by the deck and they sound great. The type rs actually sound horrible unless u are gonna be running less than 125

Just a little FYI...your CD player is really only putting out about 14-15 watts to those speakers. The rating for them is MAX which is more marketing than anything.

Thanks guys. I ended up going with the Type Rs. Did the 6.5" Component speakers in the front doors, and 6.5" Coaxials in the rear doors of my Avalanche. I figure for now I can just run them at 50w each, and then I'll always be able to upgrade the amp when the funds allow. Just out of curiosity, I did bridge the amp and gave the component speakers about 100w just to see what their full potential is...you could definitely notice a little bit of a difference.
