where to get lead

i see people all the time post about using lead for ballast. where do you get it? any websites for info on it? and im assuming its better in small amounts over bags due to ease of movement to shape the wake??

I made a set of 50lb bags totaling 500lbs. I used recycled lead shot from shotgun shells. Try contacting a skeet shooting range or a gun club. They sometimes have buckets of reclaimed shot people use for reloading there own shells. 50lbs of lead shot is a pretty small bag and will fit in all kinds of useful places in the boat. Hope this helps.

Oh where to get LEAD. I was going to say backpages.
Lead, lead lead, right. Machine shops. Don't try to have it shipped, obviously.

Tire weights from tire stores, I got buckets of them from WalMart for free. Don't be afraid to bring a 12 pack for bribes.

You can use tractor weights. Find a tractor shop (john deer, etc)

I got my lead from Tire Shops... It's better to talk to the small time guys honestly because some of the bigger places like Walmart have to dispose of their waste properly now instead of giving it away. Another thing you might consider is what you are going to store it in inside your boat. I bought some dry sacs from the camping section at Walmart for like 10 bucks each.. They work great and keep water out. Easy to handle and move around the boat. Also they are very durable. Good luck!
