This is what happens when the lake level is very high, due to all the rain we got in Texas and when you are riding an 07 Transcend with all that POP.

The rider is doing as well as he could be at this point and says he will be back on the board as soon as he is able to walk again.

The quality of the vid is not the best, it was shot on a camera phone, they were not thinking anything like this was going to happen.

WARNING, KIND OF A GRAPHIC VID, SOME MIGHT NOT WANT TO WATCH!!!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OewjKND6fUw

jarrod 08-31-2007 10:32 AM

Damn...I usually wait until the bridge is out of the way.

hawkeye7708 08-31-2007 10:35 AM

Oh man......yeah...definetey wait for the bridge... that is insane!

dudeman 08-31-2007 10:45 AM

That's crazy. Does he usually do that under the bridge when the water is lower? That would have really blown if it would have taken your tower and the rider. What injuries were sustained?

dizzyg 08-31-2007 10:49 AM

sue the bridge! it really shouldn't be in your way like that

innov8 08-31-2007 10:55 AM

Yes, hes been riding that spot for 10yrs and never came close to the top, he was not on my boat.
He Messed up his leg a knee really bad, went through a couple surgeries and lost some muscle in his leg. Doc said he will never ride again, but he disagrees with the doc, he has already been wakesurfing on his A$$, still in a full soft cast, but doing really well for what happened, he is a fearless, tuff kid, thats for sure!!!

wakeworld 08-31-2007 11:10 AM

Wow, that's crazy! I can't believe that you'd do that even when the water is low. I wish him all the best!

johnm_ttu 08-31-2007 11:37 AM

That is terrible why would you ever want to take that risk?

I know that they did Raleys under a bridge in Spray I think? But the bridge in Spray was way way higher. Made for a cool perspective, but no actual danger of hitting the bridge.

hawkeye7708 08-31-2007 11:40 AM

this is the second time i've watched that...i'm still getting chills. Good luck man!

eas 08-31-2007 11:50 AM

and not to kick him while he's down, but was that a "no wake" buoy I saw him cut through?

wakeslife 08-31-2007 12:18 PM

no it was a "caution low bridge ahead" buoy

pierce_bronkite 08-31-2007 12:34 PM

Hate to see stuff like this but I do agree with Bocephus.

jordanb05 08-31-2007 1:26 PM

eric is right, it is a no wake buoy

wakekat15 08-31-2007 1:41 PM

What lake/river is that on?

fletch_tx 08-31-2007 2:20 PM

that looks like it's on the b***** river.....and I think I know the spot....

innov8 08-31-2007 2:40 PM

Its on lake Granbury part of the B***** River.

bocephus 08-31-2007 2:51 PM

And does it look like that girl is riding on the sunpad??

rio_sanger 08-31-2007 3:10 PM

So youv'e got the driver towing through a no-wake zone, a girl riding on the sunpad ,and a rider doing flips under a bridge...Hmmmm, a real boatload of brains.

sealyon.net 08-31-2007 3:16 PM

Hope he has a fast recovery, But that was a very poor choice.Bocephus is right, she is riding on the engine cover.

innov8 08-31-2007 3:39 PM

Like I said, it was not behind my boat nor was I in the boat when this happened nor would I blow through a no wake zone or have a girl on the engine cover, but I can't control what other people do in there boat.
They got very lucky that he is still alive if you ask me, a few more feet up in the air and I dont think he would be with us today or if he was he would be in a wheel chair. I posted this vid so other riders could hopefully learn from there mistakes and not make the same mistakes they did.
Be safe and enjoy your time on the lake.

marshk344 08-31-2007 3:46 PM

innov8, that is insane. hope theres a speedy recovery for whoever it is.

I ride that spot pretty frequently, and would never even dream of hitting the railroad bridge. (though Im not incredibly good...).

I'm not a fan of the no-wake bouys up there (pretty much down the middle of the best place on the lake. -short of upriver ofcourse). I guess because of the new boat ramp, but they didnt have any for as long as I've lived here (16 years) until this season and had no trouble or accidents.

pfort 08-31-2007 6:08 PM

Innov8, who is that? Does he post up on DWB.com?

innov8 09-01-2007 7:29 AM

Ya that new No Wake buoy sucks because of the new launch, it did mess up the best line on the lake we lost a good 1000yards of butter with that buoy, but it is what it is and now its a no wake zone.
Patrick, no he does not post on DWB.

nuckledragger 09-01-2007 3:19 PM

Innov8, I remember when you told me that story and I thought it sounded back then. But when I watched the video it made me want to throw up just imagining how much it had to hurt.

bbking 09-01-2007 3:31 PM

that sucks

btw, whats wrong with riding on the sunpad??? (note i don't own a wakeboard boat)... i've only been on 2 with one, the first my neighbors told us its a good place to relax... so we laid there a bunch (we were 10) and another time i sat on it facing the rider since there about 15 people on the boat, but i just didn't wanna be crampedb but i was holding on to stuff

gobigorgohome 09-01-2007 4:50 PM

quote: whats wrong with riding on the sunpad

Being nearer the back of the boat increases ingestion of fumes from the exhaust. Also there's a higher risk of falling out of the boat as it's more 'on top' of the boat as opposed to 'in' the boat. It's law in many states I believe.

helix_rider 09-01-2007 5:07 PM

As I understand it, riding with any part of your hips above the gunwhales is considered illegal, and likely to result in a large fine. You can't sit on the sides of the boat while in motion, nor on the sundeck (or the tower I'm assuming). I'm not sure how they view standing up in the boat, as your hips are higher than the gunwhales then...but in my boat every butt is on a seat or we don't move.

supradoug 09-01-2007 8:11 PM

Stupid....just plain stupid....

liquidmx 09-01-2007 11:08 PM

IMHO riding on the sunpad is another hot debate-able topic. With most of my crew who have been around boats all their lives, have pretty good awareness, respect, generally smart responsible people, etc. it doesnt bother me if they chill back their. I actually looped some extra old rope links around my ski pylon as a place to hang onto when surfing etc. They know how the boat rides, the chances they take, etc. The only time I get sketchy about "sunpad chillin" is if its someone I dont know, or they are pretty new to the sport. I am sure different boat owners view the topic differently depending on personality, history, etc. To each his own.

While the bridge thing is a very poor choice of moves, I hope him the best recovery. I have not met a single person who hasnt gotten amped at showing off for someone. Whether its "kodachrome courage" or "silicon courage", guys make some pretty bad choices. Sadly this guys choice had brutal consequences. I hope him the best; a hard lesson learned.

joec08 09-02-2007 12:55 AM

As they say, are u stupid or just from Texas?

dmcguirt23 09-02-2007 10:12 AM

Natural Selection or... Natural Light Selection? You be the judge.

vin 09-02-2007 2:44 PM

if that was my kid i would break his other leg for that dumb ass move, then they wonder why wake boarders have a bad rap

byrd 09-02-2007 3:48 PM

he must not have be use to riding behind an MC...

gdillyfunk69 09-02-2007 5:13 PM

are we keepin his name secret for some reason???

ronnyboy27 09-04-2007 8:25 AM

That is insane! These are the same thoughts I have when I see a video of someone jumping another boat.

lfxstar 09-04-2007 9:11 AM

i hope the kid is alright but he seriously deserves the Darwin Award of all Darwin awards for that.
that was literally the single dumbest thing i have ever seen. i have been riding for a long time and done and seen some stupid things but nothing that stupid. he must have been drunk

bob 09-04-2007 11:19 PM

Im sure he learned his lesson so I wont"Go There" but I do hope he is ok.

richd 09-05-2007 6:00 AM

Just about every bridge in the delta is like that, in fact when we were out during the super high tides winter before last my Malibu would barely clear under the old River bridge (shown in the BG of the shot below) I've never heard of anyone hitting it although I'm sure people have.
