I have been wakeboarding before and consider myself a Beginner/Intermediate (I can spin on the wakeboard and also do some minor wake jumps). I am approx. 5’10” about 155lbs. This will be my first wakeboard purchase and I am not 100% up on all the things I should look for. I was considering purchasing a slightly used Hyperlite Vero 143 w/ Spin or Split bindings. Is that board sufficient?, and I know they recommend 160lbs for the 143 but think it will make a huge difference? I can’t remember what size or type board I learned on…. The Reason for getting the Spin or Splits is that I have a few family members that would like to utilize the board that have diff. size feet and don’t want to get two pair of bindings. I was just trying to get anyone’s opinion on what I should specifically look for in a board. I too am in your position. I have been looking at the CWB Nirvana with Mobe bindings. I have found it as low as $220 shipped. Everything I have read makes it seem like a great choice for the beginner.

when i started out i rode a LF evo. Im still not good but that board was really sweet to ride and simple. It is really really light and the molded fins help on landings. Plus, if rocker is a problem and you dont know which to get, it has a hybrid. Oh yeah, and you can a 2004 with some evo bindings for 299.99 with free shipping i still believe.

What do you guys think of the Hyperlite Vero ? Do you think 143 is too big? I'm about 155lbs (and gaining hopefully) but do have heavy riders..

hey guys here two good suggestions <BR> <BR>1.dont thin of your needs for equipment for the present and sell yourself short and buy what people deem beginner/int equipment.Buy the best now and grow into it instead of growing out of a package deal that you shelled out 300 bones for..buy a top line pro model binding/board if you know your feet and body arent going to change much over the next two seasons like kids might.. <BR> <BR>2.Demo the hell out of as much boards and bindings that you can so you find whats right for you not the peple who might offer up a helpful suggestion.tkae their suggestions and demo the boards they suggest but dont just run out and buy the first one.. <BR> <BR>good luck <BR> <BR>BTW the vero is a slow pig its huge and heavy..just a big ole sucker.. <BR> <BR>go with the motive series to start then try the ERA maybe a prodigy from CWB etc.. <BR>

Bill, So which brand and models do you recommend to start off with? Again i really don't want to shell out $350 + for a board. I was hopeing to get a good used combo for under $300 (maybe with Mobe, Spin, or Split bindings)

Here is an option for you, I have a Hydroslide Ozone with Holdum bindings that I will sell for $200 shipped in CONUS. It is a six-fin board, 137 cm long, and performs well. I rode the same design at the INT Nationals this past year and did well on it. It is not the board for an S-Bend. It will get you through your 360's, rolls, and tantrums. The bindings will fit just about any adult. The board is well made and I have not broken one yet - and this is the board I use for clinics and the boat-load of people. <BR> <BR>After a couple of years, get an advanced board after you know what works for your particular style of ridings. Matt if price was a big concern ,i missed it in the earlier post as well as the different riders usuing the stuff..you are limited in a binding choice so the spin or splits are the best bet..On the board i would get a 140or 141 that will accomodate everybody..Not sure in that level what to get but if you can find a HL Motive or Era 140 would be great..The CWB Tatoo sounds like a great board i havent riden it but if its the 03 prodigy shape with a removable center fin it sounds great but it only comes in a 143 and 136 ..i think a 143 is big and made for a rider 6ft plus and over 200 pounds and would be hard to spin and manuever in the air for a novist smaller rider..the 136 may be the way to go with that maybe stick some cwb Torq or the HL slits on them. <BR> <BR>im sure i wasnt a help but thats all i could come up with.. <BR> <BR>it looks like the Torq bindings with Tatoo board will save you the cash your looking for because its available in package deals.. <BR> <BR>

Matt, I usually buy last years new stock either on ebay or an on line retailer looking to unload for the new equip. you will save 20-40% or so. <BR>I would look at boards you can grow into and avoid a "beginner" board that you will outgrow quickly. And unless you demo everything out there it's hard to say whats right for you. <BR>Stay with something mainstream and you will be OK, Oh ya and you have to like the graphics on it too!
