Shop around, but I know on a 86 Prostar I was quoted from $3k-$4,500 for a full gelcoat job. It aint cheap!

Just paint it with good paint. That's done quite often, its been done to a few older 2001s like yours. Figure $1-2k. It won't be as durable as gelcoat but it will be as durable as the factory strips were when new.

Thanks-
I have left. I decided not to buy it tonight, I have to look into the resto a little more. I was pretty uncomfortable because it had a lot of "spider cracks" through out. I don't know if this is a big deal. I just don't want to buy a boat that I will have to put more into than it is worth. Hope I didn't walk away from a good deal??

Trevor

Trevor, like Kenny said always trust your instinct!

shop around, for some reason that seems pretty high to me for a boat that is in need of gelcoat. I bought my 86 Prostar for $2,500 with trailer, great gelcoat, bad upholstery and in need of new carpet and damper plate. i got an abnormally good deal but they are out there!

Best of luck to you!

$5000 is too much for a 2001 that needs new gelcoat. You can find a better deal than that, Trevor. Don't sweat walking away. I think you did the right thing.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I am glad that I passed on the 83. I am looking at a CHERRY 86 today with a tower and speakers. I'll post a pic if I get it!

Trevor
