i have a friend coming on the boat with us tomorrow, she tore her acl awhile back and got the ok from her doctor recently to do everything but wakeboard >< i was wondering if wakeskating is low enough impact on her that she could try it without a huge risk of injury? i know theres no way to guarantee shes not going to get hurt but its gotta be much safer than wakeboarding right?

After I broke my leg and tore my patella tendon I wakeskated just to get behind the boat. Presuming she's been out enough to have the technical skills to get up on the skate, it is safer. Has she wakeskated before? It's not super easy to get up the first time on a small skate and can be tricky for beginners and may be rough on her knee. That aside and assuming she can get up and has done it before, she should be ok to go out and cut around. If she's going to be trying wake to wake's and stuff like that, she'll be at risk. When the doctor said "anything but wakeboarding" did he say it's ok to snowboard? Skateboard? He may have concerns about lateral movement of her knee, so it's definitely not a question some random on a message board is qualified to answer or overrule. But just anecdotally I found wakeskating to be a nice rebab activity. In your/her case I'd opt for the largest wakeskate at your disposal. My little Kampus is tricky to get up on - bad knee or not.

she hasnt wakeskated before, but can get up easy on the wakeboard and ride around...im not sure about the entire doctor story she just told me no wakeboarding. i was just lookin for something with less impact so she can get behind the boat...i'm going to leave it up to her. she wont be jumping or anything so beyond getting up the first couple of times i think she'll be ok

Getting up on a wakeskate for the first time, especially if it is a small one, may be rough on her knees. I agree that wakesurfing may be a better option.
