Info: I'm running 2 500x1 amps on 2 12" subs and a 55x4 amp for the middle 4 main area speakers.

Questions:
- Will a 2nd stock battery be enough "juice" for the system, or should I go with something better, like an Optima or other premium battery? If so, which one (brand, model)?

- I have heard most of the positives and negatives on Perko Switches vs. Isolators. Is there a definitive answer to which one is better for dual batteries or is it really just personal preference? Specific to my current and future system, which down the road will have at least 1 additional amp for tower speakers, is a Perko switch or isolator the better choice for me?

Thanks.

I have a Hellroaring isolator, very expensive and very nice, but if I were to do it again, I would use a continuous duty solenoid that connects the positives of the batteries when the engine is running. The Hellroaring is superior under some circumstances (one shorted battery draining the other) but if you have two new Optimas that is not really a concern. It is better than a Perko which you need to switch by hand at the right time, usually not when you realize you need(ed) to. Solenoid costs about the same as a Perko.

The cheapest solution is just to get a jump starter box, which is a good idea anyway. It depends on how long and how loud you want to jam out without running the engine.

Uhh, to answer your original question, I think you should use two batts. My answer addressed how to isolate them

I run a Hellroaring Isolator/Combiner and wouldn't run without it! Love it Love it Love it! A very quality product that is worth every penny I paid for it! If you do get it get the optional remote switch. It indicates what is going on with it and you can change it's settings with it. As long as I am running multiple batteries with the need to isolate one or more I will ONLY run with the Hellroaring!!
www.hellroaring.com I think. A well spent investment.
