Hi gang.....long time lurker on this board but not much to say. Anyway I finally got the "green light" from the kitchen department to buy a boat. We just sold the I/O, and now I am hunting for a V drive malibu( actually have seen every Malibu for sale in N.America in the last two years)

We are a family of five.....kids are 10, 7 and 4. I am addicted to surfing (port side) and definitely love riding. Kids are just learning to board, but love the tube best. I am looking for input on boat size. My heart is set on VLX, preferably an 05 (98" beam). I am wondering if any of you think the 03/04 (93" beam) would do, as the prices are generally better. To me it would seem tight and less freeboard. I definitely want to beef up the ballast for a large wave as I am not into lining people onto the grid and sundeck.

Most of the time we would have 4 adults and up to 5 kids on board, at any one time. I would give an arm for an LSV but again $$$ come into play. Hope there is someone with some advice out there....and thanks in advance! ( and no...you can't swing me away from malibu....no offense to anyone)

I don't own a malibu but drove the old and new hull VLX when I was looking. I liked the new hull much better because the older hull design slapped more going over chop and I've got to be able to drive in storms.
The boat is a good size for your crew.

My kids are 10, 8, and 5. The tube will get way less use when you get your VLX

(Message edited by rallyart on May 02, 2008)

We bought an 05 Vride (same as the 04 VLX) last fall & so far are loving it. No kids in the family, but way more gear than you will probably deal with because we are foil riders. We'll typically run one on each side of the tower, plus one on the engine cover & another one 80' back.
Room is a compromise from the newer VLX but was a big jump from the DD we were using last year. So I guess it depends where your coming from as to how you will like it.
But the boat & the wake rocks, no doubt about it.

If your into wake surfing you might want to take a look at Centurion and Tige'. Have heard and seen they have some of the best surf wakes. Maybe even check out the surf portion of wakeworld
