Knee Advise CTI?

Between work, play and wildness I've gotten a little dinged up over the past few years and my right knee is an example. I get a intense but dull pain at the base of my knee below the knee cap quite a bit, really noticed it last year when I started wakeboarding. I usually just stretch a little and take it easy on my first set and I'm golden there were only a couple times last year where I had to give it a few days between riding. Anyways..just wondering if there was some good preventitives I could do in the next month before I start riding again or should I get a brace? How much do the CTI's run?

Are you thinking custom CTI or of the shelf CTI?

^Well I don't have insurance due to being layed off(not enough hours for the qt) It depends on price/fit/etc but out of curiosity what's the tag on the shelf version?

CTI off the self is around $450, custom is around $1,400-1,800

I find Glucosamine to be very effective against these type aches. Start a regular regiment of that stuff and you might be surprised how much it helps.

I've been taking emergen-C w/ gluc. and it's started to bother me since I ran out, just got some more and will probably grab a gluc. supplement too

How well does the OTS CTI fit?

wakesetter_WW 02-21-2011 7:11 AM

Last summer I used my friends OTS CTI and it fit great. Never slipped or moved. Straps did begin to come undone on hard falls toward the end of the season. I recommend getting new straps each season. I now use the custom CTI but only because my insurance paid for it.

My cti custom brace really never stopped pain, it just seemed as if it was there to stop my knee from completely exploding if something went wrong on one of my landings. If you feel like you need one however, I absolutely loved my cti brace. It never slipped (until the end of my set) and I never felt it while I was riding. They really do a good job contructing those things to feel invisible while you ride.

Buywake.com

Hey Guys. Thanks to everyone who always jump in and help each other out with the bracing/knee injury questions.
I have set up a program with buywake.com so that riders without insurance can get our OTS braces more easily. If you purchase through them, the brace comes with a wake specific package that gets you an extra set of straps and an AMS (anti-migration system) wrap.

Ride safe - have fun!
