what are the best tower speakers and an amp suggestion for under $1000. Really want to be able to jam while riding this summer, just dont have a ton of cash. any combo suggestions would really help out.

I would go with one pair of Pro 485's by wetsound. I think they sell for around 849.00 you could probabbly find a good amp for around 250-300 to power them and you would be set. Just over a grand but you would be really happy with the sound and how far they throw.

a pair of 485's would be well over his budget. $849 is a single 485.

poser007 04-06-2008 6:07 PM

Tanner pair being one Pro 485 comes with 2 speakers in one enclosure.

Thanks guys I'm going to look into the wetsound speakers.

trickyboarder08 04-06-2008 6:22 PM

I couldn't be happier with my pro 485.

I found a double barrel Wet Sounds XS650 on the web site through monster tower. Is there a big difference between these and ones with kicker speakers?

sigmodes 04-08-2008 1:33 PM

A single 485 is a great way to go. Just remember to put 350-400watts of power to it. Or it well not perform very well.

trickyboarder08 04-08-2008 1:42 PM

I wouldn't go with the XS-650's they are more for the in boat speakers, you won't be able to hear them without blasting the people in the boat.

Bazooka is releasing a compression driver tower speaker for this year . The 8" tower tubies sound awesome for the $$$

kana12 04-08-2008 5:22 PM

sigmodes..... i dont think they call for that much power do they ?

hatepain 04-08-2008 5:47 PM

They are 300 watts RMS and 600 peak so yeah they need some pretty good watts to them.

kana12 04-08-2008 6:18 PM

well i know that this is off topic but can yall anwser some questions. i am gonna run the 3 some is the alpine pdx 4.150 enough to push them

oddos2525 04-08-2008 6:53 PM

what amp is recommended for a single pro 485

05mobiuslsv 04-08-2008 7:01 PM

I would do a JL 300/2.

hatepain 04-08-2008 7:09 PM

William, the PDX line is typically under rated and even at their ratings should do a good job on those among other amps I have a JBL PS 600.4 which when I upgrade to Wet Sounds will be powering mine. It would be 123.5 watts to the Pro 80's and 358 watts bridged to the 485.

John, the Alpine PDX 2.150 should do the job well and can be had on Ebay for $250ish. There are actually lots of good options for you i.e. JL Audio 300/2, JBL PS600.2, Kicker ZX550.2

I know where he can get a set of NVS Tyrants and Zapco 1000 watt amp... for $1300cdn.

oddos2525 04-09-2008 2:55 PM

when buying an amp does it have to be a marine amp or is it ok to put a car amp in a boat?

uofamox 04-09-2008 3:01 PM

John,
A car amp is fine. Marine amps are usually over priced and really are designed for saltwater applications.

I run a kicker zx 650.4 to my two pro485s and cannot be happier. This amps puts out 325 watts RMS to each speaker. Make sure you give them enough power.
