Someone help me with boat audio
Ok so i see the threads go by with all these speaker names like wetsounds etc...We are getting a tower for our boat and i am going to redo all of the audio. I had a friend help me with all the stuff for my jeep from head unit to subs, so i guess my question is "is doing the audio for my boat any different than for a car?" Also what speakers, amps, subs, and head unit do i get? Are the big name brands such as wet sounds that much better or would i be ok running 4 kickers across my tower? Let me know the best brands if you can so i can keep an eye out for deals and such. Thanks guys

like always u get what you pay for, i know 90% of everyone on here will say get wet sounds cause they are the best, but i like exile and bullets. all the top audio names are like auto companies, some ppl like fords some like chevy and some like dodges. they are all good it just come down to what you like. if you go with exile,bullets,wet sounds or NVS you wont be let down.

Ok, so would 4 boat speakers a sub and 2 tower be enough. I like loud music occasionally but im not going to be blasting my music all day on the lake but i wana bump it sometimes.

With any of the brands that were listed that would be plenty.

You need a budget. Then u can start. What activity do u do most on your boat. Wakeboard, ski, surf etc. That will help

A very good basic stereo system would be somthing like:
alpine sps-m600 marine speakers (3-4 pairs) kicker zx700.5 5 ch amp alpine type R 10 or 12" sub Alpine Head unit with 3 pre-outs For the tower: kicker 200.2 amp alpine spr-m700 (2pairs) home made enclosure This is basically the system I have and Its cheap money wise but the sound quality is actually very good and perfect for its price range. With systems, skies the limit but ita all about your budget. |
thanks for the help guys. I mainly wakeboard and i was hoping to be in the 1000 to 1500 range if you think that is doable

I have had years of trouble free service out of the wetsounds products I have purchased. Plus, the customer service at wetsounds is impeccable. It seams that Exile also offers many great products, but I have no personal experience with them.

Hey Mike I just pulled a Kicker zx850.4 out of my Malibu, it was running my tower speakers at 400x2 @4ohms. I will sell it for $225. if you pay for shipping. I live in Santa Cruz Ca. Perfect condition no scratches ect. If you are looking to save some money. It comes with the bass controller and manuals. I was about to put it on Craigslist for $275.

It is 425x2 @ 4 ohms not 400x2 my mistake.

When it comes to your tower it really depends on what you are looking for. Do you want just to have music, to have nice sounding music near the boat, or be able to hear it when you boarding. Once you answer that question you know what style of speaker/amp set up you will need.

Ben- Yeah, your reply was way more in depth than what i was willing to get into yesterday. The OP mentioned something about WS and i just tossed out some quick numbers. In no way was i trying to say "hey this is all you need for your system."
I will say those polk db651 are a great speaker for the money. I have had 6 in my boat for almost 2 years with ~100w running to each and they have done great! |
I wasn't trying to insult you, but if the OP didn't know how much amps cost, etc, he'd exceed his budget immediately.
I do agree with you on the Polks. I don't have them in my boat, but I've heard plenty of them and love the way they sound. I also like the swivel mount tweeter. For the price they can't be beat. |
