Help, I need a good anchor for the Sac River and Lake Folsom. That water can be moving and mine stinks. It never works but I finally got it to work the other day and had it so lodged in something that I had to throttle the boat to unlodge it and bent it. I also tried using it at Lake Folsom close to the shore and that ground is so damn hard I couldn't get it to bite. It appears to be called a "hooker" anchor. BOX Anchor No chain needed and holds like a champ. <BR>It also only requres a 2-1 scope unlike others 6-1 scope. cost about $120.00 but worth it.

I've always used this type of anchor, no chain, but with the springy/bungee anchor line. I actually have two bungee's so that the drift isn't so long. I use one like you originally had. Except mine is covered in a plastic stuff. I use it on Folsom and the river. Tom has a box anchor. Man that thing is sweet!!! It folds shut, so it stores small. It's kind of a pain to put together, and take apart, but like Kevin said, is SO worth it. It comes in a storage bag too, so even if you put it away with a little Sac river sand, the sand is in the bag, and not your carpet. <BR> <BR> It grabs within a couple seconds, instead of much longer for the other type. <BR> <BR> I had a mushroom anchor with my old boat on Folsom, and never got it to hold once.

Get the Box Anchor. It is unbelieveable how well it holds, and w/o chain. I have several anchors (danforth-type, and the river anchor, as shown above). Both are very marginal even with chain and appropriate length, etc. I have had 3 boats in heavy wind with my box anchor, and it stuck like glue. Do a search here and you will see strong recommendations for the box anchor. Nice not to deal with chain all the time too.

I have the Fortress Anchor and its the bomb. <BR>Its more expencieve but it much lighter and easy to carry throw.

Box anchor works best IMO but is heavy as sh**. The fortress anchor works almost as well for river and lake but is lighter.

Robb, mine is covered in plastic too, all black, just couldn't find a pic of it, that was the closest I could find. <BR> <BR>Tom, I think I'll try out that Box Anchor. The sac river has lots of mud in it correct? <BR>Im asking because I havent anchored in it but im guessing its pretty close to the delta bottom. <BR> <BR>A small rivver anchor will work fine. <BR> <BR>with out getting to techinical a river anchor will work fine for holding your boat while you are in it. Like when your eating lunch. I wouldnt use a river anchor to over night my boat for that I would use the navy style anchor.
