It's time to get another spare prop. In the past my boat partner and I had two props. One was the stock prop, and one was from a previous boat that we used as a spare. Over time, we've had to send both out for minor repairs. Last year, I took over full ownership of the boat, and ended up with only one of the props. My problem is that I don't know which prop I ended up with.

Forgive me if I have the order of the prop markings incorrect. I'm guessing the order starts with the manufacture (Assuming OJ Prop).

Four Bladed

OJ
RP
13.
14.
1 1 8
1102

The application is a 2004 Sanger V230 MerCruiser 5.7 Black Scorpion with a Walter V-drive (I believe this means 1:1) running stock ballast. Typically we have 4 adults on board for boarding sessions.

Current performance is GPS verified 40 MPH at Full Throttle RPM 4200 (not WOT). I have WOT at home, and will have to add it to the post later.

Seat of the pants performance is that for a BIG boat, she comes out of the hole ok. I (220 lbs) get up easily. I don't know if that's technique or pulling power. Top speed seems low. I don't know if that's because the RPM is low due to pitch. I know it's either hole shot, or top speed. For the fun of it, my uncle slalomed the other day, and it seemed like for ever to get him up. That tells me I need more low speed pull. Too much slip? Time to get a three blade?

Any help would be awesome.

-Toneus

(Message edited by toneus on June 12, 2007)

The "RP" indicates the prop has been repitched, assuming to 14. The 1 1/8 is the bore size. 11-02 is the date the propeller was made. If you are interested in a 3-blade I would suggest our 13 X 12 LC 1 1/8" XMP. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Eric@OJPROPS
800-359-9730

I've confirmed that for a MerCruiser Black Scorpion 5.7 liter (330 hp) and the MerCruiser MX6.2 Black Scorpion (340 hp) that the Specified WOT rpm range is the same 4800-5200. This means that I'm leaving a whole 1000 RPM at the dock so to speak. The Rev-Limit RPM Setting on both engines is 5350.

Looks like the prop that I'm running now is WAY over-pitched. That would explain Eric's recommendation of a 13 X 12 vs. the 13 X 14 that I have now. And also why it took a while for my Uncle to get up on a slalom ski.

-Toneus

(Message edited by toneus on June 12, 2007)
