Hi I am trying to figure out what to do with my tower. I know I want speakers and I am considering a horn two mids and two subs. I have the JL Audio stuff in my boat but we all know that is not enough.

yosquire 05-29-2007 6:28 PM

get a set of wetsounds pro-80s and throw some subs in the boat.

05mobiuslsv 05-29-2007 6:31 PM

Seriously did you get that X-80, what boat do you have now?

jmiahhenry 05-29-2007 9:14 PM

I am between the X-45 and the X-80

Jeremiah,
Give Jim at Neptunes a call in Stockton, 209-466-8863 he has done a ton of boats and carries many brands of tower speakers to give you options to choose from.

mikeski 05-29-2007 10:21 PM

You don't put subs on towers. The 8 and 10s you see on towers are actually midrange/fullrange speakers.

Wetsounds or NVS, Neptunes carries both. Listen and buy what sounds and looks best to you.

jmiahhenry 05-30-2007 9:39 AM

I heard that LQ only does basic stuff is that true?

jmiahhenry 05-30-2007 10:46 PM

Does any one know the speaker size of the HSE? And does anyone use them? Do you like??

wakeprodigy 05-31-2007 5:30 AM

I have the HSE enclosure and love it. The drivers are 8". Personally I like the way they look, and I think they sound great. They can handle pretty much any power you throw at them, but also sound great with a smaller amp as well. I think they are rated at about 400W average power per channel. Definatley talk to Jim at Neptunes and he'll help you out with what you need. I believe he carries most of the pro audio gear so you'll be able to do a comparison to see what your ears and eyes like.

I looked at the three pro audio setups extensively.

The Wetsounds Pro 485's were good looking and loud as snot, but the horns were too bright sounding for me.

The Wetsounds Threesome was almost as loud as the 485's but still a little too bright.

The NVS ten/ten's were the loudest speakers I heard, but they were so bright it was painful to listen to.

I listened to a four Wetsound Pro Eighty setup that sounded great, but they looked a little over kill for a smaller tower like mine.

I listened to the Trident system, and thought it was the nicest horn based system I heard. The method of attaching them to the tower kept me from going with them.

I listened to a set of NVS Addictions, and felt as if they weren't full enough on their own.

After listening to all of the above systems, someone suggested I try the NVS Tyrants. I was extremely impressed. They are loud minus the brightness, and sound fuller than any of the other setups I listened to. I ended up buying a pair for my boat, and love them.

tonality 05-31-2007 7:23 AM

That's a good looking setup, are those 10's or 8's for the mid up there? Look pretty beefy.

seattle 05-31-2007 7:53 AM

Tony,

they are tens.

http://www.nvs1.net/tyrant.html

drewsy 05-31-2007 8:19 AM

HSE Tridents!!!!

wakeprodigy 05-31-2007 8:26 AM

Good review Cliff.

I have my Trident box bolted directly to my Supra tower. The holes were already drilled due to the stock Roswell tower speakers. All I had to do was mount the HSE box in their place. This setup works well for me and actually gives me about 1-2" more of head room in the boat. Eventually I'll probably upgrade my black gelcoat box to a custom color to match the gelcoat of my boat.

(Message edited by wakeprodigy on May 31, 2007)

Ok so here is what I am considering. Leaving the stock four cans, HSE, Tyrants...

What are all of your thoughts?

ponte_06_x2 05-31-2007 3:35 PM

jeremiah. i would spend your money on some nvs tyrants or 1010's. the jl speakers in the boat are good if you throw some good power to them. get some good subs and power. Kustom kar audio in santa rosa does great work and they will also pick up and drop your boat off. they have jl audio, alpine , boston to list a few. they also know a lot on the importance of batteries and charging systems. which wont leave you stranded. call scott or aaron at 707-527-5000. you will be very happy with their work.

New Dbot5 LTD's on an 07 MC tower.

What's the gelcoat scheme on your boat. I know with the HSE enclosure you can get it to match your gelcoat. So if you have metal flake in your gelcoat, you could probably get the HSE enclosure with metal flake to match, and at the same time have great sound quality and loudness.

Again, it's going to come down to what you are after. Definatley try to check out each setup before you buy. I'm sure you'll be happy with any of the choices mentioned in this thread.

jmiahhenry 05-31-2007 5:39 PM

I have been to a few shops and none of them had anything I could try yo listen to. Where do you guys hear em?

ponte_06_x2 05-31-2007 6:45 PM

jer. i know kustom kar is a drive for you but they have a set of nvs on display

ponte_06_x2 05-31-2007 6:51 PM

you cant go wrong with nvs. the others are cool but my favorite is the nvs. nvs has great customer service

jmiahhenry 05-31-2007 7:53 PM

Maybe that is the route I will go.

norcalmalibu 05-31-2007 11:34 PM

Jeremiah, are you sure a wakeboard boat is what your looking for? Maybe a reinell or a four winns, a family boat looks like what you need judging from your myspace page.....
