This is the engine in my 1990 Supra Sunsport. Anyone have an idea what it is. I need to know so I can order Perfect Pass. Thanks guys.

My guess would be a PCM ford 351? Has the same firing order as an old Windsor 351. That engine was probably the most commonly used engine in the 80's up to the 90's. I think the 302HO has the same firing order, but think most of the boats back then used the 351W.

looks like a ford 302 to me. I think the firing order is different than the 351. Its in my PCM manual but I dont have it with me. If you go to correctcraftfan.com you can download the PCM manuals

From what I can remember, without the book in front of me the "D" in PLD-PR-R12PP signifies 351/255 HP not 100% but I think that is what it is off the top of my head.

A sure fire way to tell 302 vs 351W is the width of the intake. The 351 is something like 10 inches and the 302 is going to be around 8?? I can't remember exactly. There are also reinforcing ribs on the 351 intake and around the distributor mount as it is taller, the 302 is almost flush. On a car it's easy to tell because of the location of the thermostat bolts.

Just think about how common that 240 horse engine was and how today we complain about anything less than 320.

mattgettel 03-31-2010 10:42 AM

I have been in a boat with 320 and it is a whole new world. Maybe next year i upgrade and play with the big kids.

if you're handy with a wrench, you could get a lot more ponies out of that 351. Dual plane intake manifold and a little head work would get you real close. Throw in a mild torque camshaft and your sittin on 300 horse plus. I'd estimate my 351w to be in the 330hp range.

Where I work porting and polishing heads is done on a daily basis. The thought has crossed my mind but I am just not sure i want to mess with such a good thing.
