using manual pumps for ballast- pointers

Ive been going over my ballast ideas in my head for the last couple days now. I decided im going to integrate some and stick with manually filling others.

Do you guys have any pointers on using the attwood 1200 tsunami pumps? the way the previous owner of the boat had it set up was that the pump was submerged over the side of the boat for filling. so if i plugged it in after it was submerged it primed just fine. then he had it so you flip the pump around and put the pump on the bag above the waterline to drain it. this i had issues with.

Would it be better if I made a quick disconnect hose to switch the pump fittings around when draining/filling so the pump was always submerged in the lake?

To drain, you need to push the pump down into the sac a little and it will prime up. An aerator pump, like the T1200 HAS to be connected to the water source, so it will not drain the sac if its in the lake.

Alright, so the way I have been flipping the pump for draining and filling is correct. I will have to give it a try to push it down. Before I use to just grap the end of the hose and suck on it to get it to prime
