It seems like everybody is always asking for pics of wakes. I was going through the pics I took for a Global Warning (<a href="http://www.globalwarningthemovie.com" target="_blank">http://www.globalwarningthemovie.com</a>) video shoot and thought this one of Dean Smith launching off the wake gave a pretty decent view of the fully loaded Malibu VLX wake. Enjoy. <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659113.jpg" alt="Upload">

gti2lo 01-13-2009 10:19 AM

ya HUGE! <BR> <BR>It's a nice wake... be nice to see the same view with an X-star too!

jarrod 01-13-2009 10:24 AM

Spencer Smith should have several shots of Dean Smith and others hitting our 8.1 Xstar wake. <BR> <BR>Where's the rest of the sequence? I'm calling Crow Mobe on that one.

eubanks01 01-13-2009 10:50 AM

Was that witht he wedge Dave? How much extra weight? That looks too "tippy" to not have used the wedge. Awesome picture and awesome wake!

andy_nintzel 01-13-2009 10:54 AM

J-Rod, <BR> <BR>Judging by how much Dean is Tripping that edge I would have to agree. Crow Mobe.

wakeworld 01-13-2009 10:56 AM

That's with no Wedge and 5,500 lbs. of ballast. That was pretty much the max ballast we could get on board without waiting 20 minutes for the boat to plane. I rode behind it and it was crazy. Who needs proper form when you have a wake that big!! <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

andy_nintzel 01-13-2009 10:58 AM

Is that the spray off the Chase boat in the background or is someone else riding at the same time? <BR> <BR>(Message edited by andy nintzel on January 13, 2009)

eubanks01 01-13-2009 10:59 AM

You guys are wrong...by the extra trip I see I say Crow Mobe 5!

misteve 01-13-2009 10:59 AM

That is effing huge!

eubanks01 01-13-2009 11:00 AM

5,500 lbs???! I hope Dean pitched in for gas. haha

wakeworld 01-13-2009 11:02 AM

That's the spray from the back of the boat. It was converging big time right behind the boat. You could hardly see the rider if he wasn't in the air. I've never seen a wake boat wake quite like this. Stopping was quite the task because you had to accelerate to keep that wave from coming in the back and then quickly reverse to keep the front from going under. Here is the full pic... <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659162.jpg" alt="Upload">

johnsvt 01-13-2009 11:03 AM

Looks good... <BR> <BR>Spray in the background is probably from a previous hit...maybe inside/out. <BR> <BR>rope length and speed?

wakeworld 01-13-2009 11:03 AM

Or maybe you were talking about the chase boat spray. As you can see, there was a chase boat.

johnsvt 01-13-2009 11:07 AM

Second pic gives a better perspective than the first... <BR> <BR>Damn...wake looks great now.

andy_nintzel 01-13-2009 11:17 AM

chase boat is what I talking about.

ttrigo 01-13-2009 11:18 AM

nutty. do you have any of the rider just riding alongside the wake? <BR>I dont think I would even ride it with it being that big. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/sad.gif" border=0>

dakid 01-13-2009 11:22 AM

<blockquote><hr size=0><!-quote-!><font size=1><b>quote:</b></font><p>I dont think I would even ride it with it being that big.<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote> <BR> <BR>hell, i'd be all over it!

vlxwakeboarder 01-13-2009 11:24 AM

Got any more pics you can share of the riders in air?

stephan 01-13-2009 11:33 AM

Mother of God.... <BR> <BR>That's the type of wake that you hit once to start getting used to it and fly about and roll the windows down with both arms and feet. Then it becomes a playground of fun.

wakeworld 01-13-2009 11:43 AM

Big Heavy hit the nail on the head for my first ride behind that monster. Although, I had two or three "rolling down the windows" wake jumps before I got used to it! <BR> <BR>We'll have an entire photo gallery of JD, Kyle, Dean, Key Lime (Lyman) and the other Keith (Lidberg) up this week. Lots of good shots.

wakeworld 01-13-2009 11:49 AM

Here are a few more photo gallery "rejects" that might help you get a better feel for the wake... <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659177.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659178.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659179.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659180.jpg" alt="Upload">

kylek306 01-13-2009 11:56 AM

woah. i bet that thing was like a rock

pnichols 01-13-2009 12:06 PM

Do you remember what speed and rope length Dean was riding at?

bmartin 01-13-2009 12:09 PM

Best shots I've seen of edging THROUGH the wake. Oh and nice wake.

nosebleed 01-13-2009 12:38 PM

Did you guys drive any double ups?? That wake is intimidating. I'd give it a go, it may kill me, but I'd do it.

adam_balon 01-13-2009 12:51 PM

sick wake.

wakeworld 01-13-2009 1:02 PM

I think his rope was 83 and they were going pretty fast, but I'll check with Dean to get you the straight facts.

wakeworld 01-13-2009 1:25 PM

From Dean... <BR> <BR>"Hey dave! I was riding 85ft, but wouldn't know what speed... Fairly standard speed I guess???"

romes 01-13-2009 1:36 PM

looks like a damn good time behind that boat..

romes 01-13-2009 1:37 PM

my guess is somewhere between 25-27 mph with that much weight and that longa line.

eas 01-13-2009 2:02 PM

so what these pictures are really telling us meer mortals is that Dean can go that freakin' huge with his eyes closed!?!?! WTF?!?!?! <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/crazy.gif" border=0>

stoked_32 01-13-2009 2:04 PM

when is that video supposed to release?

romes 01-13-2009 2:13 PM

hey dave how big of a pain was it to get your boat across the border?

wakeworld 01-13-2009 3:04 PM

It's no biggie. You just need to have your registration papers in order. The scary part is driving it around in Mexico. I don't wish that on anybody! <BR> <BR>I believe they are shooting for a May release on Global Warning.

wakeaddict9813 01-13-2009 5:20 PM

Holy Crap! Those pictures just convinced me to buy a Malibu! WOW!

downfortheride 01-13-2009 5:22 PM

David ~~ How about to finish off the pics with the Malibu SLAMMED! Everybody thinks that wake is crazy, they need to see what the boat looked like! Post up!

wakeworld 01-13-2009 9:39 PM

Ask and you shall receive. I love these pics! <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659373.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659374.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659375.jpg" alt="Upload">

zachcopp 01-13-2009 10:03 PM

Were there not some pictures posted a while back of JD Webb riding behind this boat? That boat is awesome looking! Cant wait to see the pictures of Lyman and all the guys ripping behind it! Whats the weight distribution in the boat as far as ratio front middle and back? Ha I dont know if that is to specific of a question

wakeworld 01-13-2009 10:25 PM

It's got the stock ballast of 1,250, which is two sacks on the side of the engine, one under the floor in the bow and one under the floor of the walk through. It's got 21 Pop Products bags (840) mostly in the middle and front. We added a sack on each side of the engine (550 each), a huge one down the walk-through (750), one in the bow (550) and one on the floor in front of the back seats (550). <BR> <BR>Now that I add those up, it looks like it's closer to 5,000 lbs. Not sure how we came up with 5,500 when we were on the boat. Maybe we were counting bodies. Oh well, sorry about that.

snwmot 01-13-2009 10:29 PM

OMG!!!!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/blush.gif" border=0> that is sick Dave iv'e only seen a couple boats that slammed ever!

adam_balon 01-13-2009 10:35 PM

damn. so bad ass.

dakid 01-13-2009 10:38 PM

dave, feel like taking your boat to elsi channel? <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

pyrosmurf 01-13-2009 10:45 PM

Haha, you can always rely on Dean to look like a gimp as he cuts in. His facial expressions never cease to amaze. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

dakid 01-14-2009 12:03 AM

dave, you get my email?

kyle_m 01-14-2009 6:00 AM

im hoping you repropped her for that weight dave <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0> <BR>lol

seattle 01-14-2009 6:11 AM

Kilgus was running that kind of weight + ten or so people in his VlX last year at Pateros. To see a wake of that size in person is a real eye opener. Bet Aki and Brian had fun with their front row seat.

fatsac 01-14-2009 6:31 AM

There needs to be a drooling emoticon just for this thread! Arrrgghhhh...

tuneman 01-14-2009 6:41 AM

Now before you all go drooling too much, you've got to realize that Dean Smith is only two feet tall. <BR> <BR>hee, hee<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>Sick wake.

blabel 01-14-2009 8:21 AM

I never thought I would think a wake was too big. From the boat it looked too big for me. Never rode it so who knows but man it looked intimidating.

ponte_06_x2 01-14-2009 8:26 AM

thats not a wake. its a half pipe disguised as water.

knarbar 01-14-2009 10:21 AM

In the second to last sequence of photos from Dave the very first picture looks hilarious. Look at deans eyes.He looks like he saw a ghost and closed his eyes as hard as poss. before he does a moby dick hahaha. Nice wake dave, the last picture where he's just standing next to the wake doesnt really do it justice though. It almost looks smaller because of the white wash <BR> <BR>(Message edited by knarbar on January 14, 2009) <BR> <BR>(Message edited by knarbar on January 14, 2009)

the_bum 01-14-2009 11:28 AM

Where can I sign up for a ride?

dakid 01-14-2009 12:16 PM

blabelmooch, you didn't hit that???

wakeworld 01-14-2009 1:03 PM

Blabelmooch knows he's welcome to hit it at any time. He's just responsible for both filling and emptying all ballast!!

misteve 01-14-2009 1:20 PM

SLUMPIN!

akman 01-14-2009 1:27 PM

Joe, He hits that every time he gets behind my rig! <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/blush.gif" border=0>

dakid 01-14-2009 1:29 PM

bp22 01-14-2009 1:49 PM

steezyshots 01-14-2009 2:22 PM

blabel 01-14-2009 4:29 PM

Joe, I didn't want to use gas and disrupt their schedule and what not. What that translates too is I was a wuss!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>Gramps, it used to be close, but someone is getting too scared to keep that 500 sack by the seat<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/kiss.gif" border=0>

chrism4668 01-14-2009 5:14 PM

akman 01-14-2009 7:37 PM

Blabel, do you want me to get it like this again?? <BR> <BR>I ain't scaaarrreeedd <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659589.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR>or like this <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659590.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR>maybe this one <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659591.jpg" alt="Upload">

ralph 01-14-2009 8:42 PM

Wow, that VLX has a narly lip. Boosting.

buzz_grande 01-15-2009 9:53 AM

I recognize that huge wake and the crazies on the boat. Good times. Crazy wake Dave!

wakefish 01-15-2009 10:07 AM

Dave what year is that vlx?

cavlxenvy 01-15-2009 10:11 AM

It's a 2008.

buguru 01-15-2009 12:25 PM

This is a wake...<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/659759.jpg" alt="Upload">

psudy 01-15-2009 12:42 PM

Is it a shop, or is that Wee Man?

fabs128 01-15-2009 12:52 PM

That is the new Malibu Wakesetter 742 LSV, right buguru!

duckguy 01-15-2009 1:04 PM

Very nice! Is there an 09 coming? It is interesting there was a bit of buzz about the redesign when it came out but I have not seen anything on here since.

buguru 01-15-2009 2:08 PM

You hit it right on Fabs... It is pics of the new 742. Its called the SS-742.

fabs128 01-15-2009 3:05 PM

I would like to see the specs on that bad boy. 4,000 gallon gas tank and 20,000lbs of ballast? I am guessing that the SS is Super Sport, buguru? <BR> <BR>Matt- I have heard a lot about the 09' and seen pics but none of the wake or any people posting a review on the wake?

buguru 01-15-2009 3:48 PM

Oh crap did I let the cat out of the bag on the new Malibu?? <BR> <BR>Kind of like the new M-craft's party barge...

bbr 01-16-2009 10:15 AM

The wake is pretty good sized, but I'm willing to bet the wake I rode on Wednesday was just as big. Unfortunetly I don't have any pics though.

guido 01-16-2009 12:21 PM

It looks like the wake we ride everyday. Is that abnormal?

cavlxenvy 01-16-2009 1:59 PM

totally shopped. Oh if it were only true.

buguru 01-16-2009 2:18 PM

Come on Ry~ thats the real deal there... <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

bbr 01-16-2009 2:32 PM

Evan, it's only abnormal for people that don't have the luxury of riding a big ass wake.
