Got a call from my dealer about some recall issues on the engine. Altenator bracket and a oil pump gear. They got the gear and tried to install it on the shaft but the holes didn't align, so they couldn't get the pin through the shaft. Now I have to wait for a new shaft. The oil pump gear is on a shaft where a distributor would be. The gear they took out was worn unevenly they said. Haven't seen it yet. 165 hours and they said it was worn pretty good. <BR> <BR>Any one else get called? Any other info?

A friend with a ProStar 195 had the same recall. He got the work done in a few days. We have not been to the water yet because we are in Chicago. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by jjared on April 04, 2003)

I got the same recall notices. In fact, my alternator bracket (pre-recall) is the only problem I've ever had (00 X-Star). I've pretty much blown off the oil pump shaft thing. I'll look into one of these days.

It was only going to be a few days until they couldn't get the new gear on the shaft. Don't want to strip a gear inside the engine and loose oil pressure.

Listen up...DO THE RECALLS! <BR> <BR>The oil pump gear in the engine was made from bronze. The cast iron cam wears it out over time. If you are running and the gear fails the engine will fail, and you won't be covered under the warranty. The new gears are cast iron so you should never have to deal with this again. <BR> <BR>Alt brackets are breaking so the recall is to add a cross brace. If you don't want to be a pedestrian when you alternator falls off over a triple up...do the recall. <BR>

. . . so is the recall 2002 only or should I be concerned with a 2001? Did they change the bracket in 2002?

I received a letter from MC describing both issues. The alt bracket is just a simple cross brace like Zeds described and takes only a few minutes to bolt on (top of alt to water pump). The oil pump drive gear is supposed to be a service advisory for it to be checked at every oil change. I was told by my dealer that it was not being replaced unless it was starting to wear. Had not heard that the new one is stronger so will have to check into that. <BR>

Okay, I pulled the gear out today for the first time. It looked brand new. Not a hint of wear. This at close to 400 hours. However, IMO, the picture they mailed me was worthless. Can anyone tell the difference between the good gear and the bad one in the picture?? <BR> <BR>For anyone who hasn't pulled this gear yet, it's real easy. Takes less than a minute to pull.

I got these letters several weeks back myself, but it ALSO included a Service Bulletin about my ZFHurth V-Drive Transmission. <BR>The Breather valve should be replaced from a "check-valve" (OEM part) to a open tube. I got the letter also and I have an 02 X-star, Have it scheduled to be done. A buddy of mine got the same letter but he has a 01 Maristar 230 so I think that its for a couple of the past years, probably all v-drives, not positive though.

Okay here it is... <BR> <BR>All LTR's regardless of model year get the oil pump gear check. Some gears are showing NO wear...but you won't know if you don't check it. Also if you check it yourself make sure you engage the oil pump drive shaft when you re-assemble. The old gears were bronze the new ones are cast iron. <BR> <BR>ALL LTR's gets improved alternator brkt. <BR> <BR>ALL V-drives get new transmission breather (regardless of engine model). <BR> <BR>Make sure you don't have a trailer affected by any of the recalls also (these were issued by the NTSB). <BR>

Hey all, anyone know when the recall notices started going out? I just bought a 2001 MC 205V from a shop here in Santa Clara Ca. on 03/11/03 and when i called about the three recall items yesterday, i was told they had been done. Does this sound likely? how long has the recall been out? I asked for proof of the service performed and was told it would be faxed to me. I still have not received it. Do you know if the recall has been out long enough for the original owner here in California to have been notified and the work performed prior to my purchase date of a month ago? Thanks....

Frank, The recall notices started going out about 3 months ago, If the boat sat on the lot long enough it is possible, but I would go in and get them to give you a copy of the repairs, Don,t wait for the Fax. Most of the service departments are so busy right now doing the customer recalls and getting everyones boats ready for the season that the used boats on the lots are their absolute last ones on their list to get done. Why would they do those when they can get paid to do others, ( instead of waiting for Mastercraft to get them the warrenty money back that was out of pocket). Like I said just go into the service department and get the record, if they did it they can just pull it up, if they didn't be careful of them because that would not be a good way to start off you relationship with them by having them Lie to you...

Frank- <BR>When did you last talk to them? If they haven't faxed you something yet, then I'd agree with Stewart, go down there and get a copy. You should try to keep all those records for your boat anyways, for when you sell it. <BR> <BR>mb

I did not receive the fax today and when i called at the end of the day, the girl that had promised to fax them was not in. i am going down there tomorrow and demand all the records for the boat, including the recall work. they said the boat had been serviced there since new. now they have to prove it!!!!

Frank- <BR>It should be easy enough to just pop the engine cover and see if anything was done. The alternator bracket is not a replacement. It is an additional cross brace that bolts on to the top of the alternator over to the water pump. That would be the proof for me. The drive gear is an inspection issue and it now supposed to be checked at every oil change. Email if you would like me to fax the recall letters to you. Hope this helps.

Rob, I just had my boat in for service and asked the service manager about the recalls. What he told me was that the alternator bracket would be replaced, but the drive gear inspection was not inspected at every oil change, and that it would be extra labor for them to do it. Is this total BS and they should do it for free or what? I have a 2002 X-30 with the LTR

Hey, you're dealer is whacked to suggest there are extra charges for the inspection. You probably have one of those dealers that charges over $200 for a oil change under the guise of a fifty hour inspection. Inspecting that gear can be done in under a minute, no joke. Do it yourself. Its location couldn't be easier to get to and it is only one nut.

Jordan, in the recall letter there is a pic of an additional bracket that gets added to the top of the alternator. It only takes a couple of minutes to install. The letter states that it is not the original bracket that is breaking but the top of the alternator or bolt. I have a 205 (d-drive) though so it is possible that the v-drives use a different bracket. Anyone know for sure? <BR> <BR>I do my own oil changes and most service work so I didn't ask about an extra charge to inspect this for me. The letter concerning the gear inspection cleary states to "remind your service department that this needs to be completed as part of the oil change process".
