Anyone have any Pics of the wake of a slammed DD
You hear so many people say that with the right hull, you can get a really good wake with a DD, just have sacks everywhere.. Just looking for the proof. Surely some people have some documentation somewhere of a sacked out DD.. Lets see it..

I am sure some will post soon, but many of the older boats had nearly identical V-drive to direct drive models so they would put a really similar wake out given, as you mentioned, sacs everywhere.
My old DLX Sanger is pretty much identical to Sangers V210 which is a legendary wake maker... I would only run about 1000lbs to get a decent wake - it could use more but wasn't interested in having all the room in the boat taken up. |

Not fully weighted in these pics, it was the first week or so when we were trying to get everything working. I'll try to get some more soon because the wake is at least a 8-12" higher and steeper when all the sacs are full and the whole crew in the boat. I have about 1600 lbs in my SN2001 before adding people. My sacs are almost completely hidden because of a custom sun pad / seat so that's never been an issue, even for a small boat. It also cleans up on both sides better with more weight cuz I don't get pulled over as bad as in these pics.
It's no G23 but more than good enough for me. I have one friend who is damn good and old school and he likes my wake better than an '04 x-star we ride sometimes. He likes to land way in the flats. |
A really good DD wake is not really that good when compared to a v-drive. It takes a ton of time, effort, and sacks, and to be honest, is not quite the same. Obviously I own a DD and slam mine every time, but just being realistic.

That's the best that my wake has ever looked. '99 Malibu response, wedge, and probably 1200 pounds before people weight (3-4 people)
|
Not super slammed... 2 - 350's on the side of the motor and a 500lbs in the front. 2001 Aztec

Far from "slammed"... maybe about 1000lbs
2001 Air Nautique. |
I'm also 6'4 which makes the wake look smaller in a lot of my pics :)
|
I don't have any pics handy but I can get a pretty good wake out of my 2000 MB DD. 650lbs of internal ballast. 2-400lbs fat sacs and 200lbs in steel plates. Usually try and run with a relatively full tank of gas as well. Also helps that most of my friends are well over 200lbs as well.
|
If anyone knows how I can get pics off my iPhone I can post some pics of a 95 sport Nautique with about 3k in ballast.
|
You can email them to yourself, import them to your mac though iPic, or you can browse your iphone hard drive on a PC to find the pics.

Here was are DD that put out a pretty good wake:
Old Hydrodyne Legacy - we had a custom metal "box" in the back that the rear seat attached to (held 1000lbs) and a 600lb fatsac under the bow.... Great wake for the money.... was just very prone to washing out so we kept two sand bags in there to move around. http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...738_4255_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...648_1893_n.jpg http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...088_2663_n.jpg ignor the cheesy photo-op .... our neighbor's granddaughter was visiting so we had to tool her around the lake - but you can see the metal tank under the seat http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphoto...838_8695_n.jpg |

Also Here's a setup on the crew that's a pretty good idea for DD boats. http://www.themalibucrew.com/forums/...ive+%2Bballast

Hey nick did you dip up in it?
|
Not to thread jack but what have you found to be the best setup for surfing? I can only seem to get a good wave by staying in a constant turn so I'm just doing circles. I never been able to get a good wave running straight.

I don't have any pics but I can tell you my 205 DD sacked out has an enormous well shaped wake. Of course it is the exact same hull as a very popular V drive series of boats ;)
